Anglo-Powhatan Wars
« on: 12 December 2015, 04:57:59 PM »
Hi,

I'm very interested in early conflicts with indians particularly the Anglo-Powhatan Wars. Do you know any good sources (especially primary sources) of info concerning the skirmishes, OOBs etc. ?

Hi Tom! My coauthor on Song of Drums and Tomahawks has been assembling information on this and other earlier periods. I'll give him a yell, and see what he comes back with. I'll post it here for you.

I've got to be honest and say that I've never heard of this war! o_o

Time for Google Foo..... :)

EDIT: Right, got you..... sounds very interesting and a great excuse to buy up some of the King Phillip's War range by Brigade Games(?)

Oh thank you thank you :)

Brigade Games's range is way to late for anglo-powhatan wars, maybe some settler models might fit in but the flintlocks in their muskets not really.

I didn't realise they were flintlocks.... for some reason I'd assumed they were matchlocks- shows how much i know :)

If those muskets had snaphaunce or doglock, it would have been better.

I think wargames foundry had a small range of indians for that period or at least some would do.
Beware though they are more 25mm.
I think there is a film with Colin Farrell about that period.

it's right my friend.
The Foundry are back in production. And  they are mixable with some converted warriors like nearly nude Foundry's Picts for example.
The movie is "New World" : Great pictures but a quite boring (too long).
A good mean to convert Conquistador and Elizabethan english into a new period.

The period is very interesting and very original.
I'll will use some Front Rank Malburian range to fit the job but not that same war. More Champlain 's in Canada period
around 1609....

From this period but set in the territory of modern Canada is "Black Robe" IIRC about jesuit.

I actually just picked up "New World" from Half Price Books for $1. It was worth that, for sure...haha! However, I have to agree that the love story does seem to drag on and on. Not an action flick...

Eureka miniatures do an excellent range of Indians exactly for this war, you could also probably use some of their Conquistadors and Portuguese as settlers.

Thank you for pointing this range :), I'll definitely use it as a source of inspiration because I'm going to sculpt them (or convert) in 1/72 scale.
