Painting WAR's Chaos Navy Blue and Pale Gold?
« on: December 16, 2015, 08:35:30 AM »
Does anyone idea have any idea how to get the colours like in this art in this link? I'm a bit of an amateur painter and I don't even really know where to start on this stuff. Hoping to replicate the colours on a 40k Chaos warband.

Essentially, what I'm looking to do is:
Navy blue: Very dark, "dull" blue. Realistic in colour instead of gaudily bright.
Pale gold: Very bright, pale gold. Not the warmer golds that are usually used.

Any ideas, guys?

Nice scheme.

For the blue colour, I'd say it's not a blue in the truest sense, but more of a muted indigo. The closest colour that comes to mind right now would be Vallejo Model Colour's Oxford Blue. If you were to mute that colour with, for instance, (old) GW Graveyard Earth, you'd get pretty close to the colour you're after there. With a black wash over it, I reckon it'd be spot on (but you'd might need some fine tuning, obviously).

As for the gold; the picture you linked to has metal more akin to bronze rather than 'true' gold. So I'd suggest using a metalic bronze paint, highlighted up tp silver. That will keep the colour pale enough to match the picture, but will still give you a yellowish metal...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

It's the same that got me loving Chaos and the best part is that it's not overtly dedicated to any single god. Probably not Nurgle and that's about it.

Thanks for the blue paint ideas. I think that's near perfect and I'll order the paints and see what I can do soon enough. :D

I was mulling over the gold myself, actually. It's probably more of a brass so I'll have a look on the 'net on how to do it.

Thanks for the help.
