Revell 28mm-ish Force Awakens X-Wing
« on: 28 December 2015, 03:07:16 AM »
Went into my local HobbyTown yesterday to pick up glues and blades and look through the model kit section. To my surpise I came across this kit for $29.99.

The scale isn't noted on the box and since the box was larger then the kits you see at Target or Micheals, I figured I'd take the chance for $30. Plus heck, it would be cool to build a X-Wing. To my surpise its REALLY close to 1:48/1:50 and PERFECT for Wargaming.

Even has a scale-ish BB-8. No, sadly there isn't a pilot figure.

Going to mod it a bit by replacing parts of the cannons with metal rod, repaint it and such. But I am really happy about it! There is also a black and orange Poe's X-Wing, the Special Force's TIE(not sure if its in scale, a larger scale Falcon and Ren's shuttle. There is also an Orginal Series TIE and X-Wing which are 1/48th scale, but were also $50. Again these are NOT the smaller sized kits you can buy at Target and Micheals, these are called MAX SnapTite(I think those don't have the Max in the name). I believe I read somewhere those are around 1/72nd scale.

Picked up the Special Forces TIE over the weekend for $13 at a seasonal toy shop.  The scale is 1:51 and it does look perfect for gaming.  I really need to go back and get an x-wing before the store is gone...

Thanks guys! I look forward to building it and posting updates of it as I go. Also picked up the 3 3/4" toy version of Poe's X-Wing that needs ALOT of work to make it look cooler. I'm waiting on my copy of the Visual Dictionary and Cross Sections book before working on it more. Even though I could likely find more material online lol

Awesome! Which version of it did you get? The one Scurv just posted a photo of or the "level 2" version thats in the same line as this X-Wing? If its the Level 1 version with the battery stuff, I may have to go into Micheals with my coupon and get me one.

I bought the Milenium Falcon for my 15mm Star Wars project.  It's too small, but it looks impressive on the table.

I've bought a small snap-fix tie fighter (level 3, 1:90). It is small but I didn't buy it to assemble as a tie fighter :D ... I just need bits of it.

Is it the Revell one which states it's 1/72? (ie. 20mm).  So the scale is pretty off then?

There is another one (with electronic FX) which, according to the box, is 1/164 scale (or something). I guess that is the one he is referring to. I've considered that one myself since I recently found a bunch of old Micromachines SW figures which are something like 15mm when it comes to figure size.

There is also a big Falcon in 1/72 which I think is a re-issue of an older kit with additional parts to make the EpVII variant.

@ Mingans Marauders, where are the plastic figures in your 1st post, 2nd picture from?

Those look like they're from the Imperial Assault game figures.

Thanks for the heads up on the site, bookmarked it too! The one I found, dont remember the URL, just had the boxes and some infomation reguarding the size of the model. No scale infomation.

Yep, they are the minis from Imperial Assualt!

Speaking of the Falcon, I semi kick myself for never getting the one they had out about a year ago that was roughly 28mm scale. I dont remember anything name wise, except it was the same sort of plastic their "Command" line was and it didnt have the side details.

Micro machines are closer to 20mm than 15mm. I own hundreds of them for the Rebellion and Clone Wars. The Risk Star Wars games have figures that match the Micro machines pretty closely. I have large Clone and Battledroid armies using both.

Thanks,

Looking at the xwing it's out of scale and nearer 1/72nd to be honest. The snow speeder is 1/52 and fine for WEG etc... first order tie is too small again.
