Space Angel 1960's space age character
« on: January 02, 2016, 08:10:51 PM »
I have found a somewhat obscure space age  character that had a cartoon series called Space Angel.  Does anyone remember this show?

A friend was talking about this character around 2000 and a few weeks ago I was going through some miniatures to find for a gift when I found some 1950's style spacemen and individuals.  It reminded me of Space Angel.

Here is a link to Wikipedia on Space Angel:

This has motivated to complete small science fiction pulp project that I had to shelve 7 years ago, I have a small collection of miniatures from Archive that will work perfectly for this project.

I have a few rules that will I am going to try Fantastic Worlds and Blasters and Bulkheads.  One type of rules set I looking for space combat that reflect the pulp era.

About all I remember from watching was the Synchro-Vox animation. Pure static face with weird red lips moving to the words. Sometimes the 'cut out' was very visible, sometimes almost not. My experience was a bit like a horror show; could not pull my eyes away.

I have almost NO memory of any adventures. No memory of an antagonist neo-Romans.

As for space combat, I'm a vacchead, but will refrain from my usual blither about the adaptability of Full Thrust.

I'll just mention Hydra Miniatures. Their War Rocket is closed to only their designs, with tweeks, as far as I can tell, but pulp/retro is well covered there for spaceships of Buck Rogers meeting Ming's meeting Zsa Zsa Gabor's Cytherians meeting This Island Earth's. The skirmish Retro Raygun does the same for small groups of groppos. Both are supported by figs.

Good grief, these go back some way - I also remember Clutch Cargo produced using the moving lips approach.
These WERE creepy! As The_Beast said, mesmerising.
I din't remember the episodes; but if you're stuck for plot material, could the models you have be used for Dan Dare, for which there is a whole lot more information? Crooked Dice even make a miniature that looks a bit like the Mekon.

I used to watch this show every day after school. It was awesome. I always wanted a model of the spaceship he flew.
Jane! Stop this crazy thing!

Maybe didn't impress me because I'd become jaded by then; broadcasts of Buster Crabbe serials, Captain Midnight, and MEN IN SPACE!  lol

You want a guilty secret? My 'must run home after school' in jr high was Dark Shadows.  :o

Edit: Then again, I thought it looked a lot like the Luna.
