Played my first proper game of X-Wing last night and very enjoyable it was too. Christmas was kind this year! I've done a short report, with more pics and comment, here:

It belongs to my 9 year old. It's only a mask, straps at the back holding to the head but, its most appealing feature is a discreet button at the side. When you press it, a great clone (Clone Wars cartoon) voice says stuff like "We're taking heavy fire" and "take those droids down". :D

Nice; looks like a good time was had, even though the battle was a bit onesided.

With such a swarm list, the Imperial Player should have concentrated his fire. Both Rebel ships were quite tanky, but IMHO the turret on the Falcon posed the greater threat, and he should have concentrated his fire on that ship first. Then on to Luke, but it shouldn't have been a problem outmanoeuvering and blocking his X-Wing with all those TIEs.

At any rate; welcome to the Dark Side; as you can see, we have movement templates... :D
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

looks like good first game, couple of comments, looking at the lists for both sides, I think the rebels were clearly the favourite, Vader can be very good but he needs a bit of help, same can be said for the interceptor. Now I'm thinking you probably only used the upgrades you have, so that limits things a bit, but for casual games and certainly if you just print the lists, it might be nice to use some of the newer upgrades.

Vader really needs the TIE/x1 title, it basicly allows him to equip a system upgrade, and if he does he gets a 4point discount on it (basicly they're saying the TIE advanced was originally over cast by 4 points and here's the fix) you really will never see anyone play the TIE advanced without the title, especially since the system slot has great upgrades which you basicly get for free

the interceptor really wants autothrusters, especially against a turret, when defending it allows you to change one of your blanks to an evade if the attacker is outside of range 1-2 or if you are outside of its primary arc, which with turrets is often the case. and if you equip the royal guard title, you can also equip a second modification so you can also give hima stealth device for +1 agility.

experty handeling on the tiefighter is also not something you will see a lot since it has a native barrel roll, yes it allows you to drop a TL, but there are better Elite Pilot Talents, for fewer points, I would recommend crack shot

Also I see you guys were playing without asteroids, which might favour the falcon (at least for beginners) as it's a big ship, it will have more problems avoiding them, of coures when you fly your TIES in swarms, asteroids can also be a big pain

That is one expensive card to buy (Raider Expansion only?). Fortunately, I'm not a competition gamer and the squadron builder site I use has the card definition in it's library - and I also found an image of it on the Fantasy Flight Games site - I'll just add that Tie/x1 upgrade as standard. Darth Vader did seem a bit 'un-Darth-like' last night.

Thank you very much for the tip. I only plan on ever having one Tie Advanced in my fleet and don't ever intend buying any of the very big ships so I doubt I would come across it otherwise.

Also, 3D asteroids are something very much on my 'to make' roster, as are some small 'out of Lego' space mines. I've already sourced some cheap flight stands. It's all just for home use and I'm not bad when it comes to making stuff, though I usually do it in 28mm for historical stuff.

Yup, squadbuilder is a great tool.
I rarely dig out the cards anymore, I just make the roster and print it for the battle.  ;)

FFG has this tendency to over clutter the table with markers and cards and whatnot.
I understand the need for tournaments but that too is long behind me.  8)

Still dreaming myself of having a full scale (wearable) stormtrooper helmet (original trilogy) to put on a shelf in my gaming room. 8)

I'd like a TIE pilot helmet even more, but with those hoses, it'd be heck to put on a shelf I reckon... ::) Besides; a stormtrooper helmet is about as iconic as it gets of course.

Where are these from?

Boba Fett´s helmet was a lottery win at the local starwars convention in 2011 and the clone trooper helmet was a flea market find on a second hand bazaar for baby and children clothing.  :D
I remember both were sold along with Darth Vader´s helmet by Toys´r´us around 30-40€ a couple of years ago.

Very nice, this is getting more tempting than ever.
A heads up of sorts - Wayland Games' deal of the day is a discount on the Imperial Assault Carrier (the one which comes with two TIE fighters - but it's stil £51.99+postage...

I was about to say the same thing!   ;D

Don't have the Mandalorian, but more than one Clone Trooper. Full head, and I THINK the sound boards work in all...

However, can't speak to the game, as I've only had a few basic plays of X-Wing.

I've definitely seen that cheaper.

I enjoyed the AAR.  I finally got to open my copy today so I've been reading through the rules. I can't wait to play.
