Help Needed - ECW 28mm Figures
« on: January 18, 2016, 01:49:25 PM »
Hi Folks

Decided to build a 28mm ECW army and looking for some help.

The core of this will come from Warlord Plastics range (managed to procur a number of box sets) but I want to add some variety to the units with other ranges.

Can anybody shed any light on how the Renegade, Perry and Empress scale up with the Warlord figures.

Am I missing any other key 28mm suppliers?

You can watch the progress of this build on my blog

http://shedwars.blogspot.co.uk/2016/01/ecw-new-shed-project.html

cheers and thanks in advance

Perry and Empress scale fine overall, Perry is a bit skinnier(I find with their unique stylke they are always skinnier) Paulo Hicks does some ecw stuff that is suitable (http://www.horcata.eu/inpage/thirty-years-war/) I din't have any of his ecw stuff but having some of his other sculpts they are only slightly taller (you could achieve parity by sanding down bases).

The renegade stuff is I think too big.

So are the 'Redoubt' en 'Bicorne' ranges. These three ranges are compatible with one another, but not quite so with other (smaller) ranges

Warlord also do metal figures to make a different looking unit or so:

I Love the Empress-Range. Some of the Perrys Are nice, some foundry sculpted By the Perrys Are nice. I startend with old Glory, Cheap and only ok. The weapons of the warlord-Range Are a Little too big, a Kind of Comic Style. The assault Group also have some nice stuff.

The perry foundry stuff has character but is noticeably shorter than warlord, although I note the warlord plastics have very thick bases.

In warlords defence I find that most weapons in 28mm have to be a bit cartoonish otherwise they (if proportioned correctly) are very fragile, I recommend the metal warlord miniatures which are very versatile only needing in most cases a flag swap in order to be useable for either side or the TYW.

Empress are slightly bigger than Perry , about the same as Warlord and TAG and smaller then Renegade. Empress are by far the superior range in terms of quality of research, sculpting and casting (but I am a little bit biased!). Seriously - size wise you can mix Empress and Warlord ..... but you'll notice the difference  ;)

The redoubt stuff is nice but towers over warlord i'm told, warlord has a surgery vignette but no hanging though...
