Spanish Aether Marines - color opinions desired
« on: January 18, 2016, 08:20:08 PM »
Working on some Great Endeavour British dismounted figures for Spanish Aether Marines.  Think Air Force Special Ops types.

Currently the tunics are Reaper Sun Yellow (09008) with the pants Apple Barrel Cloudless (20741) and the shoes/wraps (puttees?) Reaper Oiled Leather (09110).

The helmets are the same as the shoes.

The carbines and officer pistol are Reaper Pro Paint Plate Steel (19096) and the officers scabbard is Folk Art Licorice (938).  The Buglers bugle is Folk Art Metallic Sterling Silver (662).

The officer's skin is Reaper Tanned Skin (09044) and the bugler/troopers are Reaper Olive Skin (09221).

I still have straps, pouch, ammo bandolier, canteen to paint.

Should I go with a black, a brown or a white for the straps, pouch, and bandolier?

Should the canteen be metal or cloth colored?

What about the wrapping looking item on the helmet?  A tan or white color or something "dashing" in hue?

Why don't you post a photo of the figures?
I have no idea what they look like so it would be useful to see the figure to help with your colour choices. :)

Currently no pictures because waiting for last layer of paint to dry.

Refresh my old man memory - Flickr or photoshop work best?

Surely 'dashing' is the order of the day in all respects.

Very dashing, now that we get to see them coloured in.

I reckon an 'off white' for all of the above, with a metal canteen to off set.
That should work well, I think.

Thanks for the ideas.

I should get some time to work them this week.

Unfortunately for the miniatures , I have been painting since the 1970s and I have barely made any progress beyond the "view from 3+ feet" level of skill.   :'(

Edit, apologies for the lighting, sadly the "best" lighting in the basement.  Next photos hopefully outsie after the snow stops.

Dark blue or the light "Cloudless" blue of the pants?

It has been suggested gold edging on the wrap but that seems way out of my league...

The puggaree I would do in a blue to match the trousers with a gold fleck as suggested. I'd actually paint the helmets white, I think it would compliment the yellow and blue more than brown.

The canteen, bandolier I would do brown leather.

The waist belt and canvass bag in white.

Lots of things to consider before brush touches paint.

Thank you for the suggestions.  Those also sound good.

Decisions, decisions...  lol
