Good 1/72 Vehicle Kits for Scrap parts?

I'm doing a Mad Max Hot wheels project, but I noticed car modelling kits tend to be larger scale. I want to be able to make piles of scrap, both for scenery and also as stowage/cargo hauls for truck beds.  Any kits come to mind as being a particularly useful "mine" of small car/vehicle parts?

Scaling will probably be a bit of an issue so you will have to find kits that look right by eye.  Hot wheels should be about 1/64th scale which does not fit neatly into any modeling scales.  I did a quick look and found this online supplier with a fairly good selection of military transport trucks.  http://www.hobbylinc.com/1:72-scale-truck-plastic-model-cars-trucks-vehicles  For crates, Jerry cans and other sundries you can look at the 1/72 secondary market with sites like - http://www.fieldsofglorymodels.co.uk/172-scale-720ag-german-ammo-crates-40-pieces-6983-p.asp  IMO the HO scale train market would serve you better since they have many different scenic items that you can use.  For a mad max style post apocalyptic project the civilian stuff would definitely be more of a fit.  Of course when you add the term railroad the price goes up so be sure to shop around.  I know I did not answer your question with a quick "buy this one" answer.   I hope my post helps and gives you some more ideas.

Try also Rocco kits.
Although more 1/87 you get small packs of accessories.
Preiser also has some 1/72 and 1/87 stuff like spair tires, oil drums, jerricans, etc.

stan johansen has some bits which claim to be 20mm - link that could work.

i forget but another supplier just had a new release over the holiday.

on the post apoc forum, there's lots of great suggestions.  i just use small parts from old 1:24 kits - lots of tiny stuff from engines.

and hotwheels tend to vary in scale for packaging reasons.

I would look for the battlefield accessories kits from Italeri, Academy, Fuji and others. Lots of drum, wooden posts, griders and so forth. For weapons I used FOW vehicle guns, brass/plastic tubes and 40K guns are also great

IMHE many are closer to 1/72nd. I'm using 20mm minis with them and they're just fine, aside from there not being a great range of 20mm figures to go with them. Depends on the vehicle as they typically all have to fit the same blister packet.

I am looking for a source of any 20mm seated figures - I am converting them for WWI and RCW - has anyone a suggestion for manufacturers? Had thought typical 1/72 pilots but most are not ideal.
