Generic medieval army

Here are some knights that I originally planned to use in a fantasy setting fighting some orcs that I painted  http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=86042.0
However, with the addition of some more figures, I am going to use them in a more historical setting for some medieval skirmishes.  I wanted my knights to be clad in chainmail so I went with a 2nd/3rd crusade period.  I decided to go with Black Tree Design, as they were having a sale, but I intend to add some Conquest Normans, Perry Miniatures Crusaders, and some Fireforge Crusaders after I convert them a little.  Any C&C is welcome.

They're looking great. I'd certainly stick to the simpler heraldry like you have done. There are some excellent examples around like this lovely effigy in Worcester Cathedral.

Don't forget it was also popular to paint the colours of the blazons on helms as well in the C12-C13. As heraldry was in its infancy, it largely expressed affiliation to factions or a particular lord, rather than an individual. This gives units a certain visual appeal. When mixing and matching armour styles don't forget that the commanders will get the best kit!
My own 15mm Anglo-Normans are from the Anarchy ca. 1143-44. These are the East Anglian rebels focussed on Geoffrey De Mandeville

These are De Warenne and Senlis on the Royalist side

If you've based individually you can have 'uniformed' Men At Arms commanding groups of mercenaries/lower ranks in more generic garb with plain shields or their own devices in the party colours allowing for greater flexibility and gamimg potential

Very nice work, that red and black shield in the top picture is especially good.

I agree with jamesmanto, some static grass (and/or maybe a bit of dry brushed highlighting) on the base would finish them off nicely. 

Also, have you considered a matt finish? I know it's a matter (no pun intended) of personal taste but I think a shiny finish can detract from the details in the painting. It also helps reduce the glare in photos (shield on right most knight in the top pic) and lets you display your work at it's best.

Keep on going, you're building up a good collection there.

I've just ordered the same figures as part of the sale. The Black Tree website really doesn't do their ranges any justice as there are some really nice sculpts in there, stick a few images of yours up there and I'm sure that they would see their sales increase.

I'm with Mr J. I've used BTD Feudals as proxy Gondorians to good effect. They are really nice sculpts

Thank you all for the compliments.  I'm going to have to hit them with my matte spray to tone down the satin finish.  These guys were the last I used my brush on matte varnish before I switched and as you can see it is not matte   
sukhe_bator, those look great!  I just recently placed a large order for some spearmen, swordsmen, and some more knights.  I plan to have a Lord with a large group of followers and the other knights having only one or two.
