WWI Colour Photos (French)

Interesting site I found referenced elsewhere.  Not sure whether they've been posted here before, but there's some nice stuff in there.

Those are unreal!
In color, that stuff really looks current! Hard to believe that everyone in all those pictures are dead now. That was NEARLY 100 years ago. Its only 3 years to the 100 th annaversery of WWI's start.
I remember WWI vets still alive in my town in the 70's when I was a teen.
time keeps on ticking into the future I guess. :?

I think that my avatar picture came from this site though I’m not sure… I use to have quite a few WWI color pictures on my PC for painting reference.
A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://tistaminis.com/

Thanks for the link. I'd seen some of them before but I had no idea there were so many out. I think this link has them all. Thanks again.

Great find! It's handy for the old how green was grey-green question. From that it seems to be a lot greyer than I thought. Cheers.

Great find mate.  The pictures themselves are great, especially the one of the 'poilus' in the trenches.  The fact that a black soldier seems to have been accepted by his white comrades says a lot for the ordinary Frenchman.

Well, lots of American Black troops decided to stay in France after the war because of the better ways they were treated in France.
Unlike other European countries, France tried to make their African colonies advance until they could be included as an equal part of France with the citizens considered citizens of France with all concomitant rights.

thx, very nice pictures

I'd be careful with the colours, most of them look recolored or at least quite faded or otherwise worn out by time....

On a related note, here's some colour movie footage.  The video is obviously real but I don't have any idea whether the colour is original or computerized.  I know there was a colour process available for simple photography, as the link above proves, but cinema? There are still some impressive shots here, whatever the truth.

My vote is colorized. I've seen many of the clips years ago in black and white, I can not image they were originally in color then converted to black and white. That said the color footage does look amazing.

Thanks for sharing!! :)

God, don't you just hate war, when you see this waste of life? Gives me the kreeps. I love wargaming but the real thing is just too terrible.

That's what I thought as I watched the footage. As a father of sons I could'nt help thinking about those boys parents and how they would have felt when there boys didn't come home. Very angry I think.
