Looks nice, but is the elephant a bit small in comparision to the crew?

Hi Jim,

The Asian Elephant is quite a bit smaller than the African, measuring from around 6.5 - 9ft at the shoulder and the research that I did suggested that the larger elephants were much harder to come by and were highly prized because of this. I'm quite a believer in the 'Chinese whispers' approach to history and prefer to look at the likely practicalities of what would have been available, rather than stories told many years after an event, so went with the Ebob Elephant, which gave me the overall scale I was looking for, rather than the huuuge options!!  :)

This might also give a better idea of the scale of the elephant compared to the figures in the range, as miniature photos can be tricky:

This picture is of an actual Asian elephant and is a fairly good scale comparison, but it's also down to our own perceptions in the end too!!

Cheers
Dave

Thanks.  The side on view gives a better perspective on the size of the beast.

Here is hoping  that you will have pose variants for the elepants so those of us who like to build herds can have some variety.

I was worried a bit about that too, but your second picture is a better shot - must just be perspective.

Good to see the range growing.

It can be a real bugger to get a decent miniature photo (If you're useless at photography like myself!) which is why I thought I needed to take the laying down size comparison to give a better idea of the look and feel of the figures.

There will be variant poses for sure. I've already finished a second head and will do at least two more leg positions for variety, plus extra crew options, but this one is a start at least!

Casualty pack and cavalry are on their way too.

Cheers
Dave

Just out of interest, this is worth a quick look: http://ww2in172.com/?p=187 for a short and pretty accurate comparison on Elephant sizes.
