Anyone heard anything about Ospreys 'Our Chosen Men' ?
« on: January 29, 2016, 12:21:14 PM »
I've been hearing bits about their new Colonial, Sci Fi and Frostgrave books but nothing about this yet ?

Only thing I know so far is it's a skirmish napoleonic game.

No nothing, the author Mark Latham has not said anything on his blog about it since the news first broke about it and Broken Legions.

Got my copy today. My first view seems to get me not very happy. The army Lists are not complete. The Spain only as British(?) peninsular support, no Austrians, no Russians. As all these osprey-rules it reads like driving on a copplestone road. The rules seem to be easy, but with a lot of tactical freedom. It works with small amount of miniatures (30). Hope the missing list will come soon.

From what I've read it isn't napoleonic lion rampant but is more 'big squad' led by an officer and an nco(do I have that right), I have pre-ordered t.

Nuglehh, what kind of units exist? could you give some examples of a typical force composition?

Three big nations - Britain, France and Prussia. Waterloo and Peninsular. Several infantry and cavalry units, but not all.

Have found out more, using the French list as an example, you choose say, a ligt infantry squad of 4 men and an nco for 45 points, you can buy more men, upgrade them to voltigeurs or 'upgrade' troopers to a musician/standard bearer/captain etc.

You have a list of independent officers to choose from a colonel, lt colonel or spy, a colonel can have adcs as well, you can have multiples with one as your overall commander.

I'm enthused as the units are small ad plenty of scope for characters.

I saw another review someplace that said it was a 50 to 100 figures (Per side?)  which would put it in direct competition with Sharp Practice and probably therefore be a deal-killer for me personally. However, if it something more like a large squad of say a dozen minis or so per side I would be interested.

Tried it out with British Rifles (15) versus 27 US Lights and 2 spies, worked very well, fast and furious.

The two forces worked out at 316 and 365 points each, with Upgrades, Independent Officers, Spies and a bit more.

Remember: the dice are not your friends!
