The Basementeers met this week for a L.R. Game which centred on control of a fishing village which was being used as a supply dump. 2 X Norman retinues ( one with a distinctly Spanish theme ) attacked 2 X Later English , who interestingly had only 4 X units each consisting of 2 X men @ arms and 2 X EXPERT archers. The English , surprisingly to me , left the cover of the village and advanced to what became a choke point between the end of the harbour and a small wood. Well ,gentlemen I have to tell you that 3 X units of Expert archers in line are not to be sniffed at ( see Henry V @ Agincourt if you doubt me ). 2 X units of Bidowers & 1 X of Fierce Foot were dispatched tout suite. Four units of Norman Cavalry jostled with each other to charge ( having outdistanced their Crossbowmen ) . Cries of "Dues Volt " were heard all along the line answered by the Twang of bowstring and the whistle of arrow then the thud of mailed bodies hitting the turf. 2 X cavalry units dissolved along with one Leader before the remaining Knights charged home and put the archers to the sword. The Spanish contingent having fallen below 50% started to fail their morale tests and although one English retinue had fallen to 50% , the Normans decided that, Discretion being the better part of Valour , to withdraw contenting themselves with cutting 2 fingers from any captured archer. Pics to follow.
