Crusader Miniatures New Sub-Romans
« on: 04 February 2016, 11:27:54 AM »
In North Star's latest newsletter there is a picture of some new Sub-Roman cavalry for Arhturian gaming.  Does anyone know of anything else expected with this expansion?  Any pictures of anything else new?

I haven't heard anything I'm afraid....

....at the risk of being considered a wee pedantic thank you for typing Sub-Roman and not Romano British  8) :)

I've heard both terms used in equal measure. What's wrong with Romano British? It's at least better than Arthurian :)

Technically, Romano British refers to the period of time that the Roman army was within the shores of the British Isles. At least that's one of the things that sticks out from being a member of the WAB Age of Arthur play test group among other fora.

And I agree, it's better than Arthurian  ;) :)

Cheers,
Darrell.

But surely 'Sub-Roman' only refers to areas that were originally 'Romanised' in the first place... isn't 'Post-Roman' or 'Early British Kingdoms' more accurate?  ;)

Anyhoo... I can't see a random line of cavalry being the sole release, so presumably it's the start of a new range... but for God's sake 'Arthurian'?!!!

 lol

I always liked Romano Successor as this can cover those Romanised civites areas that tried to maintain the previous regime and the wilder factions that imposed themselves on them...

Not according to professor Guy Halsal, who, at the time we were play testing was a member of the group ;) ;)  :)

He's quite famous in his field so I'll take his word for it  :)

It's all a bit 'pseudo-history' anyway as nobody has the faintest idea what the armies really looked like - even Professor Halsall who is amazingly knowledgeable about the period, so what to call it is probably a bit academic anyway...  ;)

And I actually like the term 'Arthurian' despite the obvious lack of historic-ness...lends it a unique kind of feel...does that make me a tad weird??  :? lol

Anyway, really good to see the possibility of yet more figures for the period, as I have heard a rumour that Arthurian (sorry!!) Saga may be on the cards, although I personally definitely don't need ANY more Arthuria...err...I mean Sub-Roman/Post-Roman/Romano-British models!!!!!

I reckon so- BTW, has anyone read his new book on the subject? Saw a copy ion Waterstones but was in too much of a rush to look  :-[.

Me neither, I could probably put together three armies as it is- if I ever get them painted!!  lol

Do you know if that SAGA supplement be release in 2016?

Thank you for your post.  I will hop over to North Star and do a little shopping -- I mean investigating myself.

lol ... and so the thread dives, dives, dives.

Quite true, although I think we all have our own idea of what they looked like, which makes for hard work for a range to make everyone happy.

I wanted a Post-Roman/Sub-Roman/Romano-British/Post-Arthurian/Welsh Army, but the GB range didn't do it for me.

How about the Musketeer/Foorsore range Jim?
