« on: 20 February 2016, 04:33:27 PM »
Fellow Groupies....

I'm a novice in Napoleonics.....and looking for your help please ....
Which manufacturer/miniatures should I purchase for these 2 commanders?

Looking for plastic ...28mm scale (or thereabouts)...and available in the UK.

Thanks for your help!

That really depends on what campaign you want to model your army on.
Your best choice is Waterloo and Penisular campaigns - as they are only ones featuring Brits in any large numbers and so are most prevailing in wargaming miniatures.
By accident they both feature Wellington although only Waterloo campaign features Napoleon heavily. (Most of the uniforms could be used in both but that depends on your level of purism :)
(You can play almost all other Napoleonic sub periods but number of plastics decreases dramatically when you are going back in time from 1815 and Wellington is absent).

Uniforms changed a lot in the period.

If you want plastic you have small choice really
Perry
Warlord
Victrix
and to some extent Hat.

From these Perrys are more static, Victrix are multipart (that is pain when you have 60 miniatures in a box..but minis are more interesting if more difficult to paint in bulk)

Best way to se which one you like best is to look for one on one comparison like these.

My advice is if you want to play skirmish - Go Victrix multipart.
If you want to play mass battles IMHO Perrys have nicest and sharpest detailed miniatures.

Hat is cheapest but plastic is slightly softer and details could be lacking. I have no deep knowledge of Warlord as I discarded them in favor of Victrix and Perrys as most detailed and didnt bought any.

One thing to mind is that if you want different units in plastic you will have to buy from diffrent manufacturers and combine. Perry And Victrix works well in my experience.

I doubt they are in plastic.

The Perrys do both in their Napoleonic Range.

The little man in the funny 'at did pop up in the Peninsula, and stayed just long enough to see his favourite Regiment routed, and it's Commander captured by the English.

Aaah, the old chestnut of Napoleon's height...  lol

The fun part is that this myth was debunked a long time ago on the basis of established historical and scientific evidence : the man was actually 5 feet 7 inches tall (about 170 cms), which made him slightly taller than most of his contemporaries in an age when average male height was about 5 feet five inches. Nelson was 5'6, so shorter than Bonaparte but Wellington was the tallest of the three, being 5'8 to 5'10 depending on which account you trust.

Oh, and back to the subject at hand, I'm afraid none of these worthies are currently available in 28mm hard plastic - only metal as shown above, though I'm sure there are quite a few 20mm soft plastic Wellingtons and Napoleons around.

Perry metals are by far your best choice. They're gorgeous and include oodles of character.

There is no finer opportunity to have a dozen of the same character in a dozen different uniforms than Murat. A dandy and a fine cavalryman too! Murat is excellent.
