I am wondering if anyone has read Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi for gaming ideas?

Ship is Breaker set in a post-apocalyptic future. Unlike other novels in the genre, human civilization is in decline due to ecological reasons. The polar ice caps have melted and New Orleans has been buried underwater. On the Gulf Coast nearby, humanity has reverted to survival mode and a small economy has grown from the scavenging of washed up oil tankers for bits of copper and other valuables.

I am wondering if anyone has read this book for ideas on a ecological collapse of civilization setting?

I have his 'Water Knife' in my Amazon cart.   It came highly recommended by someone I trust.

I have not read any of his stuff though...

I haven't read it (or even heard of it to be honest) but I've added it to my wish list. Thanks for the tip!

It sounds somewhat similar to 'The Massive' graphic novel.

Love me some Paolo Bacigalupi. "Water Knife" is a good Eco-Action Thriller, very fast paced and lotsa intrigue & spy/undercover stuff, near future setting. "Ship Breaker" I remember liking it when I finished it but details escape me. Its a young adult novel and I remember it being not as meaty as his other stuff. "The Windup Girl" would make an awesome setting for a game. Great extrapolation from where we are today to where we could easily end up. Think Monsanto on steroids. As far as fertile grounds for a game "The Windup Girl" gets 3 thumbs up from me, and its one of the only books in the last decade I've gone back to multiple times.
Viewer suppression is advised.
