Statues for Frostgrave
« on: February 22, 2016, 04:16:04 PM »
In the Flea Market last Historicon I came across figures for LOTR Hex Combat game. They are very big figures and don't mix with other figures I have, but I thought I could make a statue out of them, I bought some. Here's what I did.

Wire cutters trim off the hex base

Spears from GW Skellies box

Plinths from Hunger Game figures

Rare Earth Magnets

MDF bases added for a little height, and ready for paint.

Six statues ready for the table

Fireforge and Frostgrave figures for scale

The statue can hop down off the plinth and kill the unwary

More pics and write up on my blog:

They work well.

I'm sure I have some of these in my spares-box - So I might try copying the idea.

Very nice. Have you thought about doing half buried ones?

I love how simple and how great the painting is. Dark grey base coat, lighter grey drybrush, voila you have a stone statue (I assume?)

The figures also seem perfect for it. Nice find!

Oh, I see that now, it's more noticeable on the shields with the larger raised areas catching the brush strokes. It's such a nice effect. Now you've got me wondering which of my old models I can use as statues.

Interesting... Minis a bit too "Big" for the scale seems like a great way to do statues.

Time to see if I have anything neat for this in those LotR Heroclix I picked up a while back...

This was another good reason for getting the Simba toy castle set when it was at clearance prices as it comes with 14 'large' figures 40mm or so in height (4 of them on horses). They all have enclosed helmets so should make good statues and large constructs too. One of the horses is in a leaping pose and that will I think make a pretty impressive statue. I'll put pics in my plog when I finally start to make some significant progress.
