GW Lost Patrol
« on: February 27, 2016, 10:59:18 AM »
I'm having a bit of a sort out currently and came across a copy of Lost Patrol, one of the old Games Workshop stand alone games.

My Google-foo is failing me in trying to figure out what it might be worth.  Any pointers to GW fan forums or similar where I might get a bit more information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

It doesn't come along often, so might be collectable-ish.

I managed to blag a near mint copy several years ago for €10,- , but I strongly suspected that the seller did not know what he had in hands, so I might have been just lucky...

Given the wave of Nostalgiahammer going on, I'd imagine you could do quite well on ebay.

liked this quote  lol

Original copies of Lost Patrol are reasonably easy to find, but if for some reason you can't be bothered with tracking one down, you can easily simulate the experience of playing the Scout side by pulling a burlap sack over your head and having a buddy lock you into a small room filled with feral cats.

From memory it doesn't sell too well on ebay. The only desirable things are the old plastic scouts and they're not uncommon.

The game is played on a modular map consisting of hex tiles that is continually expanded as the Scouts move along. It is so ridiculously unbalanced that even finding the dropship is considered a major victory for the Marines. According to Thornton himself, this is intentional and part of the fun. The only way make Lost Patrol "fair" is to take turns at playing the marines and see who gets eaten faster.

Weird! I played it with a mate recently for the first time ever, and took the marines. I found the Dropship and escaped with two scouts left. 8)

You lucky git!  lol

I can't recall ever winning with the scouts and I believe I only ever saw one succesful escape ever. That game is tough on those poor scouts!  :D

As far as I recall I have a 100% succes rate with the scouts.  ;D

I did enjoy the game on both sides, but I can imagine it getting frustrating if the scouts lose as much as I hear they do.

I've never even heard of this game until today and this thread. How peculiar.

Jake's blog site has this page:
http://quirkworthy.com/lost-patrol/

FAQ and sniper rules. Doesn't help with determining the game's resale value, but might help those who are curious.

It says "the classic 2000 game"...but the original is older than that right?  I don't recognize it at all and have been in the hobby since...1994?  Did they mean 1990 version?
