Chain of Command, Crete
« on: 18 March 2016, 09:06:03 PM »
I already have Italians and British for early war in north Africa plus Africa Korp for a bit later.

But I like the idea of the fighting in Crete, can still use my British just need to paint some German paratroops.

Anyone got a CofC list for them? Not sure of the organisation but fairly sure the  support available would be minimal until they captured an airport.

Also for the British does anyone know who makes an A13 tank in 28mm, I believe they had a few A13's, Matilda 2 and quite a few Vickers light, tanks got the later two.

The British armoured forces on Crete consisted of 'C' Squadron, 3rd (King's Own) Hussars with 16 Vickers MK. VI and B Squadron, 7 Royal Tank Regiment, with Matilda IIs. The Matildas were split up into three pairs deployed at various points, with a final three at another, for a total of 9 vehicles. 3rd Hussars only had 13 light tanks operational and these were divided into one group of six and another of seven (in troops of three tanks iirc).

No Cruiser tanks were on Crete and likewise no Matildas were sent to Greece.

Sounds correct, I know they had A13's when they evacuated Greece but they must have gone on to Egypt and not Crete.

Have one Vickers and ordered a Matilda, might get another Vickers light tank.

cheers

I was under the impression that all the vehicles that went to Greece were disabled and abandoned there during the retreat and evacuation. I've never really read up on it, but that is the impression I have.

With respect, using TMP as a source is almost like walking into the street and asking random passers-by what they think.  ;)

There are more focused forums like Feldgrau.net and Axis History, where you will get a far more specialised responses, photos and the sources they were derived from.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a photo of a British cruiser tank (knocked out or abandoned) and the photo caption saying 'Crete' - I will do a search and get back to you!
