Deus Ex 1/35 Cyberpunk - new photos, more Augs and SWAT
« on: 20 March 2016, 10:19:19 AM »
Hi all,
After a bit of a break on this project, a rewatch of the amazing Deus Ex trailer (), I got inspired to make some more models. I now have a great selection of hard plastic 1/35 kits (more about these in another post)

So I started with this concept art by Bruno Gauthier Leblanc (used without permission, here is his site inkertone.blogspot.com )

Then I've put this guy together inspired by him. Kitbashed out of 5 kits. The head is actually female but it is a dead ringer with a green stuff goatee.

For the exposed arms, I scribed the muscles with a blunt knife to make it look more like the augmented mechanical arms

And the trickiest part of the build, the blade runneresque augmented legs. Plastic sprue, paper clip and green stuff. Super fiddly. Still need to sand and square up the green stuff a bit.

Hope you like him, paints soon and more models.
Cheers The Baron

Awesome. One of my favorite franchises turned into miniature porn. Good job man 8)

That is a great conversion.

Hi all,
Made some good progress on my Deus Ex stuff today, have now got the makings of an actual game!

First up we have Anna Kelso and Ben Saxon from the novel and tablet game, inspired by this art

Saxon is ex-SAS and Belltower special forces so is very soldier like. He has one augmentic arm and shades. Anna Kelso is ex-Secret Service, so I gave her a shoulder rig. Really pleased with her, pieces from a few kits here.

Next up possible detective or mob boss

An augmented merc, inspired by Fedorova. Her right arm has folded back to reveal a PEPs stun gun. Hard to see but it has opened, and the hand flipped back like in the trailer.

A lone Belltower mercenary, he needs some backup.

And what would a dystopian future be without bad-ass Police SWAT?! Russian Vympel with Star Wars command tie fighter pilot heads, hopefully origins won't be too obvious once painted a different color and with Police printed on the helmets

Hope you like them. Next up a bunch more Belltower I think, then some painting.

Cheers
The Baron

Really, really cool!
I just wish Kev White would do some Deus Ex goodness someday. Would love to own DE sculpts in his style, that would be awesomesauce incarnate.

Awesome stuff! You've got to love 1/35 for that sense of detail. Now your need to paint them and build terrain too ;)

One of my favourite computer games of all time. I must have fully played through it at least half a dozen times and to date it's the only game in my collection that has a 100% achievement rate on Steam... :D

Your versions of the characters are spot on; you certainly found the right kits to use. Good thing that in 1/35 you're really spoiled for choice. I didn't even know there were cowboy kits in that scale! (but perhaps remove the sheriff's star from your detective/boss guy?)

What kit did you use as a base for your not-Fedorova?

The TIE helmets work well for the police; they should look great once painted. For the helmeted Belltower operatives you'll be needing featureless visors though. But the SWAT balaclava-heads obviously are just right.

Keep 'em coming!

I finally took the plunge btw and bought just the right Infinity miniature to base Adam Jensen on. You've got me all worked up to start working on the conversion now...  ;D
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Thanks mate - yeah some Kev White Adam and the Tyrants would be amazing - he could do a couple of Adam versions, trenchcoat/armour, different arms. I've got my eye on his American Trucker when it makes the transition to metal ;)

Great work there.

Thanks guys! Yeah terrain will be a challenge. I have in my mind an internal setting with lots of old antique furniture, curtains on windows and the like. Generic warehouse terrain would also see a lot of use.

I love the game, and in particular the art-direction and soundtrack (a great CD if you can track it down).
Sheriff model is actually from a Metal Gear Solid kit, the plastic makes it hard to see those little details so missed the star... maybe a detective he is then!
Fedorova is based on this set of awesome models;

http://www.themodellingnews.com/2015/06/masterboxs-july-kits-over-top-on-two.html

The kit has samurai swords, crossbows, mohawks. Very cool, and will be used for Harvester gangsters for sure.

I am still on the lookout for suitable helmets for Belltower heavies, featureless 1/35 visors are hard to come by! May have to sculpt them myself.
Make sure you post your conversion when you are finished, I warn you it is a slippery slope though haha

Next up will be hopefully some more painted examples, really keen to get working on the SWAT. Any suggestions for colour schemes? Traditional blue fabric/black body armour and helmets, or something more outlandish? I do love the police from the Total Recall reboot, all that white might be challenging though...

Cheers The Baron

I know; I love that soundtrack. I have it my car and often play it when painting scifi stuff; it's just great for that.

Ah; the Ocelot guy, if I recall correctly? :)

Damn; the stuff they produce in 1/35! :o

I will. And it's a slope I'm willingly stepping on, as I've wanted to tabletop game DE:HR ever since I first played the PC game. I'm a huge fan of the franchise too, so I also gobbled up Icarus Effect, the PC port of The Fall, Fallen Angel and the DC comics. Heck; I even have a The Hive T-shirt! lol

I'm hoping to use the Infinity rules with the Deus Ex minis I'm collecting/converting, as those seem to fit well. It helps that those rules are really good and  tactical and most profiles can easily be ported or adapted to the different characters and opponents in the Deus Ex universe.

I would just like the hacking to be a bit more involved as per the PC game, so maybe Malebolgia's netrunning solution may be an interesting way to go instead?

Me personally, would go with the scheme from DE:HR, even though it is rather unimaginative, being predominantly grey/blue and black. Still; it's instantly recognizable and true to the source...

+++EDIT+++ I just watched the first official gameplay video of and I squeed just a little.  :-*

It looks awesome again and now I'm really in a DE mood again...  :D
