full plastic 100 year war 28mm armies ?
« on: 28 March 2016, 01:27:54 PM »
Hi,

I'm currently planning armies for Lion Rampant, I first thought making them in 1/72scale, but I recently saw the cheap but quality perry plastic english and french infantry plastic sets.

Unfortunatly, they are foot soldiers only, I'm wondering if there is some choice for cheap 28mm plastic mounted knights sets (even with a bit of conversion) for the same historical period (1415-1430) ?

Thanks !

The Perrys will be bringing out a plastic cavalry box to go with the two infantry ones. Though as far as I know they haven't started it yet. Perhaps next year, if you're patient?

They do have some metal cavalry models to go with that range though.

Ditto the above  :)

You'd only need 6 knights/serjeants per unit so even in matal only £16 per unit

Wouldn't some of the plastic WoTR figures fit in?

(I haven't looked at them personally but I know a few of you have)
Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

Depends on how historically accurate you want to be!

thanks for your answers,

I would like to make the armies quite accurate, I'm not against a bit of conversion (or sculpting) work too !

Well, not strictly true. The so called HYW lasted until 1453 so if you went for the latter stages of the conflict then all of the Perry Wars of the Roses range would be pretty much fine  :).

Ah, but he did specifically mention the 1415-1430 period.

I think the latter stages of the 100 years war would make a great project though. A nice mix of armour styles, as the older bascinets start to get replaced by sallets and armets.

Yes, I'd prefer early 15th, or even 14th. I want the traditional knights with surcoat, bright colors and all  :D

So on that basis, how hard would it be to convert plastic WoTR figures?
Are they all conclusively post 1450 style?

That's a good question. I don't have the historical knowledge to see how big would be a conversion work for these.  ;)

I think you could pretty easily put some of the Perry HYW heads and arms on the WOTR mounted sets, and I don't think anyone would be able to tell the difference from more than 6 inches away.

I think it would be quite easy to combine the  WR 40 Mounted Men at Arms 1450-1500 with the AO 60 Agincourt Foot Knights to give you 12 mounted knights for the 1415-1430 period.
I think you just need to cut the torsos at the hip and swap them out.  If you want lances, you would have to carefully match the shoulder armour.

That's an idea, I could even then modify the leg armour a bit, I have to see if it could be an interesting economical choice too.

thanks

Ah, missed that.  o_o

That probably started about 1430-ish  ;) :)
