Looking for 28mm or 1/48 1980s/modern(ish) Tank Crew ?
« on: 31 March 2016, 07:17:11 AM »
Hi, As the title says - my Googlefu is not very good and was throwing up links for WW2 Tank Crew !!
I am hoping to use them with the Empress Scimitar and Mo Fo British Falklands figures.
Does anyone know if such figures are available or am I going to have to break out the Green Stuff !! ?
Any help would be gratefully received.

Regards

If it doesn't matter what the country is IIRC you can still pick up the old Mongrel IDF tank crews (even though the rest of the line is dead).

Empress however said that they were intending to make crews for the Airfix vehicles. I'm not sure if that came to anything, but maybe follow up with them if there's a release date.

If it doesn't matter you could just use preexisting Tamiya or Airfix tank crews with different heads. The issue with those though is that they're to scale with the kits the come with, i.e. a smidge bigger than regular 28mm.

Whatever you do. Depending on what you actually need, yes, you could just slap on a greenstuff flak vest and a different helmet for something passing as a Falklands era Brit. ...Unless you have real rivet counters around your part.

Do you need complete figures or just upper bodies to put in turrets?

As above, theres the IDF tank commanders that Mongrel used to do, through Newline in the UK.

Empress has released a vehicle crew but it's for the Jackal - tbh I don't know if  Scimitar commander would look much different so they could be a useful base for a conversion.

Thanks for the prompt replies, I'll check out the Empress and Mongrel figures, I was thinking I'd try for both - full and half figures - and no, no rivet counters this end of the web ;)

Gasoline do modern 1/48 tank crew for French vehicles.
Em dezembro de '81
Botou os ingleses na roda
3 a 0 no Liverpool
Ficou marcado na história
E no Rio não tem outro igual
Só o Flamengo é campeão mundial
E agora seu povo
Pede o mundo de novo

Thanks for all the pointers people - doesn't look as if Newline carry those IDF tank figures any more, Empress figures are wayyy too modern to use for 80s and the Gasoline French figures are just too.....French to get away with  ;). I looked at Verlinden but there's nothing suitable there either - am I chasing my own tail with this quest ? What do other people use ?

I was reminded today that Eureka make armoured crew in their Rhodesian range. They are in berets and have short sleeved shirts, so i don't know whether that meets your criteria. Ceartainly tank crew in Australia were similarly garbed in the 1980s. They are beautiful sculpts and I've used them for a variety of models and periods, not just the Elands they were designed for.

Sorry for not responding - been away for the weekend at a family event.
Short sleeves would be no good as the action takes place in the Falklands winter plus the British wore a very distinctive 'bone dome'.
It's looking like I'm not going to be able to have crew sticking out of the hatches after all :-[
