MagpieJono's miscellaneous fantasy stuff
« on: 12 April 2016, 06:04:37 PM »
I realised that I've been churning out quite a bit of fantasy stuff recently but haven't been posting any pictures for everyone to see so I've started this log with a view to showing everyone what comes off the painting desk.

I'm trying to get a few warbands together for Dragon Rampant. I bought some old skeletons a while back and they finally made it up the queue along with some newer figures...

Necromancer to lead the bunch

Some light cavalry with champion on undead steed with slightly adjusted leg position for more dynamic pose.

Some old Citadel and Marauder wights for elite foot

Some old plastic skeleton infantry. Idea about the skeleton with the heads was stolen from someone on another forum! 20 skeletons in all.

Champions and standards for the units.

A couple of chariots and crew.

I also acquired this old Nick Bibby giant without a weapon. Dragon's leg club added from an old giant mummy figure.

And finally for now a trio of trolls. Wanted to paint them yellow for something a bit different. Quite pleased with them. The lighting in the photo has killed a bit of the shading on the yellow however.

That's all for now. I promise to post a bit more frequently from now on! C&C always welcome!

24 zombies finished. Mix of miniatures. Would have liked more of the Kev Adams zombies but they're not cheap today. Painted in a common theme to tie them together although they still look like a shambling mob!

Those minis bring back a lot of good memories. Your skelly cav unit is great.

I like your skeletons and the wights.
And the trolls. Painting bright yellow skin is courageous, I'd say, but you managed it very well.

You have a SPLENDID style all your own & some FINE miniatures to work its magic on. All VERY NICELY DONE!

Thanks for the positive comments.

I enjoyed painting the old zombies so much I've just bought some more online!

I'm really getting down the painting queue so need something to paint anyway.

Fresh off the painting desk are three old Brettonian figures. Painted these more because I liked the miniatures rather than for gaming pieces hence the better painting and extra work on the bases.

Closer views of them.

Very nice - great sculpts and my favourite Robin Hood figures.

Thanks, after more than 20 years I think I've finally found a recipe for flesh that I'm happy with!

10 bases of Snotlings. Did 5 a while ago and just got the second 5 finished now. Limited colour palette used. Mix of manufactures, Citadel, Marauder and some Foundry Snorklings. First time I've painted using the quickshade method. Brushed it on rather then dipping. Happy enough with the results. As I glued the models to the bases first it would have been very fiddly to paint them in my usual manner. Wasn't able to get a good group shot unfortunately due to the size of my photo box. I'll try in the daylight maybe.

nicely done, keeping the colour choice limited can be a challenge, but you have done a fine job - I'd say the whole lot looks impressive on-table

I treated myself to some Hirsts Arts moulds a few weeks ago and tonight finally got round to casting a few pieces up. Looking forward to making some fantasy terrain with the results.

A few photos of the work in progress.

Not a bad haul for an hour's work.
