Now taht's a really good looking tower. How was it made?

Thanks  :D

It was built around an upturned plastic bowl with a plastic pot glued to it (everything above the cut line was disposed of); the levels are foamboard and the tile is 30cm sq of 6mm MDF

I glued a tube of rolled lightweight card inside the pot and then built up bricks around it; the brick assembly was the same as for my Inn for GoT (which is on LAF somewhere but now easier to find on my website)

http://www.silentinvader.uk/index_w_gtn_index_terrain-making.html#two

For this building, after the bricks had set, as this is a round tower made from compacted earth, I carved off jutting edges and sanded the outside before sealing/strengthening the plaster with a wipe of superglue

Again, for a smoother finish compared to the 'granite' inn, I painted the exterior wood glue into the cracks, not to represent a mortar but to soften the joins; torn-up cork pieces were added

Balsa, matchstick and GS were used for details, ladders were made from model train railings; the same plaster as used for the bricks was then used amongst the cork to create the levels (its spread on top of a layer of the wood glue, so the glue gets worked into the plaster, which is more secure)

After that, it was just a layer of sand

Hope this helps.  :)

I really am talking to myself now  o_o  lol

By way of clarification, I know some people are interested in WIPs and they'll continue to be added to my website where I record them for my own reference but henceforth I doubt I'll bother at LAF. As I generally post from my phone, they are quite a hassle to format/configure for LAF and so can be quite a bit of effort.  I'm happy to do it if it's useful but there's no sense in me wasting my time. :)  ;)

EDIT: In case anyone is interested ......  :)

Very interested indeed ...I find it much easier to visualise what I need to do with WIP shots!

Very much appreciated!

I find it interesting and informative.

And it's a very impressive tower too.

Seconded, I was absent from LAF yesterday afternoon, I was actually making something for myself ;D

It look excellent and such an ingenious build method. :)

Well, thank you all.  :D

It wasn't a stroppy comment and it certainly wasn't directed at Hammers (who'd asked how the tower was done). It was more of a general thought that as of late I had been pondering whether or not I was adding value by posting WIPs. As there has been such a positive reaction I guess I should continue so thanks to those that took the time to respond.  :D

Pictures or it didn't happen  ;D

I echo that  ;)  :D

Silent Invader,

Just belatedly chiming in to add my thanks for your WIP shots, which I find very useful as well!  Your tower is fantastic, and I am excited to see what it will look like after painting and look forward to seeing the final result...

You certainly are adding value. Thank you! I had forgotten about the other holdfast, or rather did not realize they were made with using the same method.

The random effect of those handmade rocks look really good and I realize the shape of them has a large part of it. I have similar projects in the pipeline and a am thinking about how I will go about it to get the same look. I am hoping to skip the production of field stones by using a sort of crushed limestone gravel you can find on this island. It is fairly lightweight and the individual rocks take on a fairly elongated form.
