suggestion for painting pouches

sorry for the stupid question..bit i'm painting after years of artistic inactivity  some Foundry AZW redcoats in valise equipment and pouches...i would like to leave the equipment in original colour..(i'm old school) so in white...but..being leather equipment ..and also considering the scale..should be best if i use gloss or matt white?..same for the leather valise and supplementary pouch...matt o gloss black?

Speaking for myself, I'd go with matte finish in all cases, unless you are looking for a "classic toy soldier" finish, but I assume that would apply to the entire figure, not just the leather pouches.
