Queen Victoria list?
« on: May 02, 2016, 09:17:43 PM »
Heyho,

I recently ordered the new Queen Victoria mini from Wargames Illustrated
and I want to play her with John Brown from Westwind in a List for IHMN.

Are there any lists out there including these two caracters?

Thanks

I can only make some suggestions here. Guardsmen, Household Cavalry and Special Branch bodyguards. Highlanders would also be thematic given Victoria's fondness for Scotland, and, if you can lay hold of them, the old Foundry Lady Kilgore and armed maid figures.
I'm not a mercenary. Killing's more of a hobby for me.

Ok thanks,

so I probably build my own list. I realy like the idea of EotD`s 221b Alliance
fielding Holmes and Watson with Victoria. But I have no idea who the other guys are.
Can anyone help me here?

A company with some cool characters would be great supported by some henchmen
like maids butlers and bodyguards.

So far I think of:

Queen Victoria (I use the lovely WI model)
John Brown      (westwind, already painted him for my b.e.a.s.t. squad)
Holmes &         (also WI)
Watson
Maybe some more named characters (for exaple: politicians ore noblemen/women),
feel free to suggest some :)
I have to do some research first

It will be a bit difficult to explain why the queen with a gun leads a company
but I hope I can get a friend of me to do the background story since he
already did a good job for my IHMN BEAST company

thanks so far
cheers

Given her occasional appearance in the Flashman novels (often to pin a gong on Flash Harry), how about Flashman ?

Don't forget the last Stand against the Martians, as mentioned in the free companion list, on the steps of Buckingham Palace with Lady Felicity at her side?

Now there's a scenario...

If you are going to add politicians, well-known Victorian personalities, etc.  I could suggest Benjamin Disraeli (whom she found charming, as opposed to Gladstone whom she detested).  Major-General Sir Redvers Henry Buller was a fighting general (and truthfully, more at home in the saddle leading from the front than acting as a general).

Thanks so far :)

were can I find the free companion list? Is that lady felicity from the lord Curr company?

I added:

-Benjamin Disraeli, 1st Earl of Beaconfield, prime minister

-Col. Sir Henry Buller, VC, ADC

Its less of a Company List and more of the attached story to the Martian supplement which you can find on the IHMN blog... But stats are there for both Martians (including traitors) and freedom fighters...

For John Brown, you could use the 'Bloody Thistle' lists which has an interesting take on the 'Terrifying' talent if he's wearing a kilt.

Well,

thanks for all the replys and suggestions.
Here is my first try of a queen Victoria list.
(still needs a name)

I like the Idea of Victoria being inspirational but I don`t want to much pluck 2+
characters, therefore the speacial rule applys.
I never read the flashmen novels, so if someone has some ideas for speacial rules
based on his characteristics in the books feel free to leave a comment.

The Prime Minister still needs some tweaks. A bodyguard rule for John brown would be cool but I
don`t know how to do that and also don`t want him getting to expensive.

Critics and commetns are welcome  :)

cheers

Liking this very much

Some suggestions for the most beloved Queen...

We are not amused: Give her Erudite Wit to reflect her domineering presence (she did not suffer fools gladly). It would also give her an edge without turning her into Boudica.

Give her a close combat weapon, perhaps a hat pin (aka the Forty Thieves) or a spiked fan (treat as knife or Combat knife).

She was also Empress of India and had at various times, Sikh bodyguards. A real splash of colour amongst the red and black.

Any bodyguard could also have a 'sacrifice' talent. Now I cannot remember where I've seen this and it may even be from another popular steam-punk game but as I recall if a figure with this talent is within a certain distance of its charge it may as a move switch places with the said charge. There may also be a version in which if in base contact the bodyguard can take a wound meant for his Queen.

I'm sure Charles or Craig would remember if this is the case.

Thinking about to change Disraelis stats a bit.
He is quiete useless for now.

increasing his FV by 1 and giving him duellist(swordstick) + a pistol
makes him far more useful. Maybe he is in a gentlemans fencing club.

cheers

In the Flashman novels (which are great fun), the secret is that Flashman is - to put it bluntly - a cad and a fake.  He has a reputation as a bluff, honest, brave soldier (he is a lancer officer in the "Cherrypickers"), but truthfully (and secretly) he is a bully (towards social inferiors, if unobserved) and a coward who will find a way so that others die in his place.  Hhe is extraordinarily lucky - events usually transpire (or he so engineers them) so that he winds up looking like the quintessential Victorian hero (aided in this by a physical anomaly in that when he gets scared his face flushes, so other people think he is furious).  He is skilled with the lance and sword, and is a very talented horseman.  He is also fairly strong, physically imposing and handsome, with a hard constitution (he survives wounds, sickness, and even torture that would have felled "a lesser man")  - and is a charming and successful lady's man (so some sort of "seduction" skill could be utilized), but in extremis is quite ready to cut and run leaving his paramoor to fend for her self.  He also has a great facility with foreign languages (and with taunting foes if he thinks he can get away with it, often to the point where they do something rash).  Despite his cowardice, if there are too many witnesses who could destroy his reputation if he showed the white feather, he will stick and fight desperately (he likens it to being a cornered rat).  He was a schoolmate of Tom Brown's, whom he bullied till Flashman  was expelled by Headmaster Matthew Arnold for public drunkenness.  A Paget on his mother's side, his wife is the beautiful and wealthy heiress of a Scottish brewery and ironworks magnate.  An unusual Victorian "hero" (with many of the prejudices and hypocrisies of his class and time - especially his view of the inherent superiority of the English), but great fun and can supply some nuance to the game.

For Flashman, it might be worth visiting the IHMN page and reading up on Major Otto Von Feldkirchen's Light Dragoons as there are some characterful talents there involving blackmail and self-preservation...
