Warlord plastic soviets in greatcoats make perfect WWI infantry, except for the heads, which are Napoleonic and ACW. Most of the rifles are 1:35 Mausers, but they fit nicely. And, of course, greenstuff helps us to cover all the flaws...

P.S.

"Chaffinches in armor" is a semi-autobiographical book of russian/soviet writer Georgy Venus, WWI veteran and, later, infantryman of Drozdovsky' regiment. Amazing book, although very grim and full of despair. One of my favourites.

Look very nice! Always happy to hear about books I haven't read (sounds very Russian), and hey maybe we will get lucky and it will have been translated.
Got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight.

Unfortunately, I strongly doubt this book was ever translated...  :(

It's not in Smele's Bibliography, so it is unlikely it is in English, French or German at least.

Given that there are quite a few that have been translated but are not in general circulation ("Smell of Smoke" by Magnus anyone?) there's better avenues to look down. These are out of copyright, so it would be easy to scan and put up for everyone to read.

Superb work!  Well done.  And yes, that book sounds fascinating.

Brilliant conversions and kitbashing combined to make a great unique force.
Nice colouring in too.

The painting style is bold and I wish I could muster the nerve to paint so well with that color palette.  Very inspirational...
