TV inspiration
« on: May 12, 2016, 01:44:07 AM »
I just watched a TV show called Apocalypse World War 1 on TVO. I believe it was on National Geographic as World War 1: The Apocalypse. It's from 2014.

It features colourized  historical film footage from the Great War and chronicals the events. The episode I watched featured events in 1914. It included lesser known or forgotten battles ( Japan invading Tsintsao) as well as the big ones ( Anzac's in Gallipoli).

Overall, I found it pretty informative and will try to PVR the rest of the series.

Wondering if anyone else has seen it? Thoughts?

I'd never heard of it until now, but I see my local library has it on DVD and I've just requested it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

We have been enjoying it here in the States for maybe a year.  Wonderful series - I think quite the best on WW 1.

Any series has to go some to beat the great 1960s BBC series 'The Great War'. I've not seen the one the OP mentions but the Kenneth Brannagh one is also good.

World War One in Color was quite good, but this one is even better.

The series runs on AHC (American Heroes Channel). Personally I did not like it, too politically correct.

The Apocalypse series were made for French Television by Isabelle Clarke and Daniel Costelloe as well as WW1 there is a series on WWII and a two -parter on the rise of Hitler.  They were shown on National Geo and Channel 4 in UK with an English commentary.  I think the colourization works well with documentaries not so with well known feature films.  Region 2 DVDs can be had fairly cheaply on Amazon etc
