St Lambert sur Dives, IABSM - Devon Wargames Group
« on: 15 May 2016, 11:50:49 AM »
Hi all,
We played out a great little scenario covering the events of the Battle at St Lambert sur Dives during the closing stages of the Falaise Pocket, which saw the award of the VC to Major David Currie, 4th Canadian Armoured Division.

The scenario features in the I Aint Been Shot Mum rule book and made for a fun game at the club meeting this weekend.

If you would like to see how the game played then just follow the link to the DWG blog.

Very nice indeed!

I'm hiking Normandy in September, Juno to St. Lambert. 6 days to cover what took June to August. Should be a great trip. I'm going through war diaries now and deciding on where to stay.

I have the official history of the SALH (*they perpetuate the South Albertas) on my table now. One of my coworkers uncles was the RSM during WWII.

Quite the story, and the only VC won by the RCAC during WWII, so it's a big one. The famous picture:

Good write up and a nice looking game.

When we played the scenario the Shermans took a pounding losing 5 tanks before seeing off the German tanks. The deciding moment was when the surviving Firefly emerged from the smokescreen to meet the Panther point blank and the teabreak card came up!  The next turn was quite tense as the two tanks faced each other like a western gunfight to see who "drew" first. In the event the Firefly did and blew the gun off my Panther first it's first shot! As that was my last tank we called it a day at that point.

Thanks for your comments chaps. The card play in IABSM creates a lot of replay value in these scenarios as one game can be quite different from another. We certainly enjoy playing them
