Sharp Practice - Darkest Africa!....Masai + Explorers
« on: 30 May 2016, 11:27:26 AM »
Gents,

The re release of Sharp Practice by Two Fat Lardies stops at 1865 …but it can go further! I’ve been using a few rules sets for Darkest Africa gaming and Sharp Practice was one eagerly anticipated for adaptation to this genre.

I've gathered some thoughts on this and popped up the first of a few posts on the subject of adapting Sharp Practice to gaming in Darkest Africa, specifically East Africa in the 1880s-90s.

I kick it off with a general discussion.

Cheers

An interesting read. I adapted SP 1 for Darkest Africa gaming, and it works pretty well. I'm interested in any ideas to make it run smoother.

I hadn't realised that the Maasai fought tackle out; probably as well the 3rd Foot and Mouth ("The Devils in skirts") only had Burpas to fight and didn't come up against the Maasai.

Your brushwork is superb, and I also like the understated job on the bases, which look very natural. Out of interest, what is the main colour you used for the bases?

Hey Sir Rodney,

"what is the main colour you used for the bases? "

I use a house paint for the base edge and just white glue and a woodland scenic Fine Brown Ballast -  http://woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/Item/BAL-B/page/1

Then a simple drybrush of a light 'warm' brown (Folkart Teddy Bear) and then Woodland scenics burnt grass flock..

Very simple and fast...more figure....less about the base...though nice basing with tufts can be nice sometimes.

Thanks for the explanation.  I prefer the look to my current scheme and will give it a go.

Very interesting. I am also working in a Darkest Africa theme for "Sharp Practice 2", and I have now ready a band of Ruga-Ruga, with their profile.

Gents,

..the Masai in Sharp Practice!

This post in this small series looks at portraying the Masai using the new version of Sharp Practice by Two Fat Lardies.

It incorporates the new concepts of deployment points, ‘national’ characteristics and other unique elements of the Masai people and how Sharp Practice with its many interesting concepts can be used to reflect their unique attributes.

Check out the Masai for Sharp Practice here.

Gents,

I've popped up some thoughts on using Darkest Africa Explorers in Sharp Practice.

I'm sure there is any idea or two you may be able to use...hope it's of some benefit.
