Helldorado...?
« on: January 15, 2009, 04:45:39 PM »
Anyone play Helldorado? They have some fantastic sculpts and the game is pretty cool. I'm working on a board, sort of a back-burner (no pun intended) hell board project and I have quite a few figs ready to paint. Just curious if anyone else likes to listen to old-school metal and dream of a day when they can fight in hell.

I find the sculpts really good but never purchased any as yet.The background looks very interesting and artwork excellent too.Can I play with Madness? Sure you can...as long as you don't stain the hall carpet.God bless Maiden. ;)

It's definitely an interesting concept. I seem to recall that part of the issue was that they were dragging their feet on the English language version. Not sure if it's been released yet.

I've had my eye on this game since it was launched. Was it not that I have plenty of other ideas in the pipeline I'd go for it.

Indeed a lovely game with a great concept.
Great background and - most of them - lovely miniatures.

The board is about half finished...now to sneak in a couple models for a photo shoot...

Also, Marrony; it's MAY I...MAY I play with madness. And, yes. You may.

Haven't gamed with them, but I've read the rules in French. They seem pretty sound, with a good range of tactical options, and the magic system and alignment system should give the game a lot of flavour. The background's really well developed, and they have some really imaginative sculpts. I've got the rabbi and Golem set on my wishlist, and some of the damned figures look amazing as well - I'm kind of hoping they'll do all 7 deadly sins...

i have played a few games and rather like it.  it's a good skirmish game - i think ideal for small Companies.  but i would not like to play it in anything larger than 250 points a Company.

the group i played it with has a few interested people and we tried playing multi-player games, one with 4 players one with three.  this is where the game breaks down.  there isn't anything addressed for a multi-player hand-to-hand combat where the other parties aren't allied.

How big are the minis, anyway? Do they work with any other lines?

i find the 'average' human to be a little on the small side vs Grandma Wendy or other 'heroic scale' 28mm figures, but only just so.  but the lines have a number of very nice, large beasties or specials that would stand out and stand up to GW.

several of the gents i play with don't want to use Hell Dorado figures, simply on economic reasons.  they substitute GW, Fenryll and Spyglass figures in their respective forces.  the look and play is in no way ruined - just my sense of aesthetic (and my desire to keep another game and game company solvent in the face of competition).

currently i am fighting with a Saracen force, so i have stared at the figures for a fair bit.  as such, i can say the Saracens look like they could stand in for other systems as well.  were i doing a Lawrence of Arabia setting or similar, the Berber Chasseurs are ideal for Arqbussers or similar troops.

It's a ruleset I really want to play, so I've been picking up some of the miniatures to play with Occult Wars, hoping to find some opponents. Unfortunately, here in the DFW metroplex, everyone is fixated on FoW, and mostly other historicals. Not much interest in newer games, and with the economy the way it is, it's understandable.
The Hell board idea is great - I play Inferno, and a decent playing field is needed. You plan on posting some of those pictures, Mike?

One miniature is too many, and a thousand are not enough...
