Thanks, guys
I looked at the Diptych and a few illustrations online for inspiration. I wish I had a decent camera because a lot of details are missing but these are taken with an iPhone, which gets in closer than my digital tourist camera.
This is the first time I used Vallejo's Liquid Gold, I love that stuff! The shield is a base coat of tan shade (Foundry) then the leaves are first painted with Foundry Brasen, then Foundry Gold, and finally liquid gold. I used a burnt umber for the background of the two child emperors etching on the shield to give it a bit more contrast. That was painstaking! Also painstaking, and a shame it doesn't show well in the photos, are the embroidered emperor portraits on the cloak. The cloak was done in mephisto red (Citadel), inked with Army Painter red ink, then bright red shade, base, and light from Foundry. The embroidery was just dots within dots using Foundry Gold, bright red and Shiny and well as the trim. I thought the liquid gold is best used on metal rather than fabric.
Also not picked up is the embroidery work done on the tunic. I used a purple trim and a purple square clavis (?). The spear isn't decorated on the diptych as far as I can tell (I'll have to look again) but this spear pattern was from an illustration of Stilicho from the Google-machine.
And that's it, that's my
Last Roman GeneralSo, yea, lots of bling... he is Stilicho, after all

Now the grunginess of my pseudo-comentatensis more than makes up for it, though!
