Customs on UK goods to the EU?
« on: 24 June 2016, 09:32:49 AM »
I guess I am revealing my small mindedness when there are larger stakes at play here. But I do wonder if Brexit will put a hamper on my use of EBay.co.uk which has been a rich supply of wargaming specifics in the past. Only time will tell, I suppose.

You bet, Andrew! Like the water reserves on the island where I live, my lead pile has reached record lows.

Any changes will take a very long time.

I would not expect to see any changes to UK / EU import duty before 2020.

I actually think that there will be some kind of EU light option for UK just like Switzerland and Norway already have.

The remain campaign and some EU politicians  said this was not an option last week but today we have a new reality.

I don't think so, Mick. There are a lots of Voices from Brüssel, which want are harder line against Britain. So, it will go as fast as possible. But the low pound in the moment is good for us in Euro-Countries.

I was wondering about how this insanity might affect sending and receiving post outside the UK. With the rise of postage costs I've certainly noticed my purchases from outside Europe dwindle, especially in the case of the US where high costs plus the chance of UK Customs charges are proving prohibitive. If Customs charges start being placed on EU purchases then that might affect my willingness to deal with sellers outside the UK. Personal trading aside though I'm far more concerned about any potential impact on the costs of doing business as a commission painter. Will there be a greater chance of getting hit with Customs charges when receiving models from customers and will there be charges placed on the customers when they receive their models back (which would likely be far more significant in cost)? Will postage costs increase further and will insurance levels drop even lower than they currently are? None of this will be determined over night but it's still a concern.

I think for British customers it won't be a problem, but over in Europe it will become a problem. So let's hope for some solution which will help all of us after 2018. On the other site it could help to get the lead mountain a little bit lower. ;)
