Thank-you all.

I've squeezed in a quick little project before family Christmas starts and finally painted up the trio of Beast’s Lairs I made way back in May.  The bases/grates are from somewhere on Etsy (with one of the grate covers being cut and bent apart with the assistance of my wife’s hairdryer) and the tentacles are from Bad Squiddo Games.  Between these, the milliasurs, venomgorse and zombies, this has been a good year for adding to my GM’s toolkit.  (I also knocked out a scrap pile as an experiment in Contrast paints over a black/drybrushed Leadbelcher base – it’s worked well enough and was quite quick by my standards.)

Nicely done, it sure helps to have an assortment of random beasts, props, and scatter on hand.

Looks like those grates are Hirst Arts castings, good work on the bending mod :)

Now you say it, Hirst Arts sounds familiar.

I was originally just going to cut a hole for the tentacle, but then thought about how that hole could have got there, so had a play with bending the bars instead, which has worked rather well.

Presenting my last figure of 2023, and the first of this year: A Mercator Pallidus Pale Consort and Lady Credo respectively.  These two were quite tricky to paint, as they needed to be done in sub-assemblies to ensure I could get the brush into the right places.  However, despite having a good fit prior to painting, I struggled to get the Pale Consort’s cape and the left side of Lady Credo’s dress to fit snuggly.  With a bit of (very) careful filing back of painted sections, I managed to get a reasonable fit for both of them – it’s certainly fine at tabletop distance, although if one looks closely (such as in these photos), the gaps can be made out.  Despite all that though, I’m very happy with how they tuned out.  (The next job is figuring out how best to secure Lady Credo in a foam tray for storage/transport – she’s got a lot of delicate sticky out bits going on.)

I got Lady Credo because I liked the figure before her role in the Aranthian Succession was revealed – it seems I’ve been led astray into rebellion against the lawful authorities by the allure of a lady flashing her stockings and acres of décolletage (a tale as old as time).

Assuming you paint them in some element of sub-assembly, be very wary of the fit as you build and paint; otherwise, they're very rewarding figures to paint.

Lovely brushwork, the guild lady in particular is really impressive. I love the sculpt anyway, but yours is one of the best painted versions I've seen.
(And bravo for the posters on the walls, too!)

I don't own Lady Credo partly because I'm not sold on the pose, but mostly because I don't want to be constantly glueing all the brittle bits back on. Very best of luck with storing her safely  :)

Yeah, I'm kinda dreading taking her anywhere other than my display cabinet.  I remounted the servo skull with the censer on a wire stalk to address the most egregious fragile bit, but I'm taking a chance on the hair bow servo skull.
