Japanese sea cliffs - First rock complete!
« on: July 03, 2016, 08:44:31 AM »
After the success of making the Dorset cliffs and feeling the need for some samurai naval action I've decided to make a few small cliffs/outcrops for the coast of Japan.

The initial inspiration came from this photo below (taken from google images) and fortunately it is quite similar to the Jurassic coast in England's south west. There are of course many different types of cliff surrounding the coast of Japan but this one is a good starting point, expanding on what I've done before.

The first one is just a simple little roundish outcrop to get a feel for the technique and although it is very similar to the Dorset cliffs there will be some differences.

At the moment it is just the blue foam (with a figure and fune for scale) but this will get covered in texture to help with the above photos appearance. Then it will be painting and then the growies. It'll be the last two stages that will hopefully make it look like a Japanese cliff as opposed to a nromal western one  :)

More to follow later today hopefully.

cheers

James

Technique is something I think you'll be right with Jim.  :)

Really interested in the sound of the navy action. What rules pray tell?

You seem to be suffering from some sort of cliff mania.  We may have to refer to you as Sir Cliff in future.

Promising start although hardly surprising given your prodigious talents and extensive cliff building experience. Getting the water colour right will be the tricky bit.

Thanks chaps  :)

Home brew, still in 'back of napkin' mode at the moment. Japanese naval warfare was quite different to what we are used to in 'the west'.

Please don't  lol

Yes, I'm worried about the water myself  :?

Got the first coats of paint on. There need to be a few more colours and some lightening of the base but it's getting there.

cheers

Two posts in such quick succession? What's going on?

It is meant to be at least a week between updates on a Bibbly thread!  I mean where are the countless other projects from diverse eras and locations?

Far too focused, are you alright?

Nice little cliff, would make a great archipelago for smaller scales too

Been away for three weeks and needed to do something but yesterday I burnt myself out before actually doing anything because I wanted to do so much lol

All done, the growies took a little longer than I thought but hopefully they look ok. One of the pictures has a GW Man 'O' War ship next to it to see if the rock could be used for that... Quite possibly  :)

That looks the business.  It'd transfer to a fantasy setting very nicely.
