Cultist Help - what goes with Pulp Figures?
« on: 14 July 2016, 08:08:27 AM »
So, I have started the oddball step of making a Partisan army for Bolt Action, as my gaming group has started playing that heavily, and I am not overly hyped to collect a WW2 army, and I started using my already existing Pulp Figure Cultists - photo from an old LPL I painted them for -

And I want to expand them a bit, but I do not know what will go with Bob's premium cultists from other ranges, with that similar sort of look and feel, but armed with such things as tommy guns, grease guns, rifles, or other such weapons. Anyone have any suggestions?

Also, anyone doing WW2 era weapon sprues?

The Evil Hooded Minions and Gasmask Cultists from Pulp Figures have different weapons (among them rifles and a Tommy gun) - these obviously will fit style-wise.

Statuesque miniatures, in their Pulp range, sells a sprue  of weapons (with attached hands) for conversions.

I recently got a spruce of the Frostgrave cultist (as well as a soldier spruce) and added arms from Warlord WW2 Germans, Russians and some arms from the wargames factory WW2 Russians arms and they seemed to be OK, I have them with some Artizan cultists.

If you want I could dig them out and take a couple of pictures.

Check out our Pulp Alley weapons --- https://store.pulpalley.com/

Also, I've always liked the Artizan cultists.  ;)

The Artizan figures are on my list, but I didn't realize there were Cultists in the Frostgrave range.  I had missed the Old Glory ones, and they would be easy to convert to have weapons.  I also have most of Murch's cultists - I do need the gasmasked ones with the machine gun - but I was going to try and mix some other sculpts in to make it less repetitive, though, fortunately, I do not have to get very many more figures to round out a Bolt Action force.

And, honestly, Dave - there are too many pistols in the set versus the other guns for yours to be cost effective for this.

One reason why I've stayed clear of the Pulp Figure range is that they're sculpted in such a, let's say, round and unusual style (that kinda makes everyone look like B-movie legend Robert Z'Dar. Look him up). Which isn't necessarily a bad thing if you like that style, but it makes them stand out a lot when placed next to figures of other brands. It's very hard to mix them with others. It's slightly easier when they're wearing hoods, though.

Crooked Dice makes pretty decent cultists (although with slightly wonky proportions), but their robes don't match these.

Almost missed this, but yes, I would love to see comparison photos!

Bugpope, I understand what you mean about the stylings, but I fell in love with them back in the days of RAFM's Call of Cthulhu, so I am willing use them.  Plus, Bob is a really nice guy.

My Cult is composed of Artizan, Pulp Figures, Hasslefree and Blind Beggar. I haven't assembled my Frostgrave cultists yet and I have the IHMN set but not yet painted but here are a few of them:

OK as requested some pictures, though my painting is no where near as good as what posted already but I hope it helps.

Two Artizan, one frosgrave with wargames factory Russian arms and an old gw familiar that i use as a cultist child.

3 Frostgrave cultist, still 2 more to do including a standard bearer.

Warlord WW2 Russian and German bodies with cultist undead heads and arms.

Wargames female apocalypse survivor with cultist arms and a Warlord German body with Frostgrave soldiers head and arms.

Frostgrave soldiers bodied with Warlord Russian and German heads with Warlord German arms.

Hope you like it.

Oh, thank you!  Between your Artisan/frostgrave and Snapcase's Artizan/Pulp, I have a good notion, and they will work together, I would think.  Even if the robes are a little different here and there, that will be okay.  They may be from different cities where the robes have a different cut (heresy!).
