Soldiers Of Killiecrankie Event
« on: 31 July 2016, 09:07:39 PM »
Good wee day up at Killiecrankie today. Very sombre feeling to be standing on the battlefield were two armies with the majority of Scots in both battled each other for their King or Religion.

By the end of the Battle the Jacobite Highlanders had defeated a Scots army fighting for William of Orange and to proclaim him King Scotland, England and Ireland. The Jacobites lost 600 and the Williamite army lost 2000. The biggest loss was on the Jacobite side with Bonnie Dundee or Bluidy Clavers as the Covenanters called him was dead. With Dundee gone the Clans failed to stay together and most went home.

William of Orange was proclaimed King and we saw the end of the Stuart dynasty on the throne. More blood was still to be shed in their name though.

Well i never knew a lot of the land was on the land of what is the now larger Urrard House Estate. It used to be owned by Vanessa Harryhausen (Daughter of Ray) and she used to be quite difficult to deal with. It's now under a new owner who helps the event a lot and allows them to do talking events in what is basically their garden.

Good stuff. But a lot of the soldiers seem well past their enlistment date.

The valley of Brigadoon can only delay time, not stop it altogether. :~}
