Second 1/56 Martian Tripod - Completed 14/8/16
« on: 05 August 2016, 09:52:27 AM »
Well here's a chance for you to make your mark on my model collection! As I said recently I'm trying to finish up some outstanding projects several of which relate to my VSF collection. Here's the first one almost sorted. I've had the parts for a second 1/56 Martian Tripod sitting on the workbench for ages well over the last couple of days I got them assembled! I'll paint this up in the same metallic finish as the other but my quandary is "What colour eye do I give it?" Do I stick with red (red planet) or make it Green (Little Green Men) or blue or...Let me know what you think!

Three eyes, one red, one green, one blue. As a bit of a nod to the valiant effort of the 1953 version...

Years back I chanced on a metallic blue (possibly a Tamiya colour?) that looked ok on SF eyes - a sort of Dune inspired effect.

Dune is very dusty/sandy. So is Mars.

So I would go bright shiny metallic blue. Possibly with a slightly darker body? Maybe a hint of bronze to the bodywork?

Ooh I like this idea.

Well the second Tripod is complete and the 'eye' colour is a luminous shiney green (Humbrol #50 Mist Green)

Quite agree, though I've this uncomfortable expectation to suddenly see the Grand Lunar peeking back.  lol
