Flashman....
« on: 15 August 2016, 12:55:25 AM »
I am converting the Warlords Historicon 2016, free giveaway figure to a mounted version of Flashman.  I have looked at a good many artist representations of Flashman in a Lancers uniform, but I am unable to identify WHICH Lancer regiment would be appropriate for Flashman.  The only regimental connection I can make from the Flashman series is to the 11th Hussars.  Any help would be appreciated.   Here is the figure in question.

Keen to see what you do with that. I have had similar thoughts myself as I would like to use the Eureka NOT Flashman figure for a leader in Sharp Practice 2.
Cheers,

If he is at "The Charge" then it has to be the 17th Lancers - they there the only lancer regiment in the Crimea at the time.

As I recall he was with the 11th Hussars, but then left that regiment prior to Balaklava.  HOWEVER, I don't know of a single reference to the 17th Lancers.  Ultimately, I am just going to use him as a Brigadier for just about ANY period (after all....Harry was EVERYWHERE).  :o)

The 11th Hussars were part of the Light Brigade at Balaclava and took part in the charge along with the 4th and 13th Light Dragoons, 17th Lancers, and the 8th Hussars.

Hi Steve.....I am aware of that.  I am more specifically looking for any referenced accounting of Flashman being in a Lancer Regiment, based upon the Flashman books.

There isn't one. Flashy does learn to use the lance in India very early in his career, but he is never actually a lancer.

Flashman at the Charge p 58 " ...The glittering points where the 17th sat waiting - and Willy burst out in excitement "Our Regiment Harry! What noble fellows they are!"

So 17th Lancers it is

"At my tactful suggestion to Raglan, we were both gazetted in the 17th, who were lancers..."

Flashman at the Charge - when he's chosen by Prince Albert to be young Willy's mentor.

Chosen by Flashy because it would annoy Cardigan, because he had used the lance in India and, above all, they "wore the flashiest rigout in the whole light cavalry"
