Looking for 15mm line
« on: January 28, 2009, 01:29:06 PM »
So I’ve been jotting down notes for a simple sci fi hex-based miniature game.  I’m looking for a line (available in the USA that I can buy using Paypal) of 15 mm miniatures. I'd like to get them from one source.  What I’d like is:

-15mm
-Not to detailed, but not total blobs
-Cheap (;))
-One stop shopping (one line from one manufacturer, hopefully not attached to any game)
-2 distinct separate forces (one can be alien, or both can be human), with one version each of the following:
   -Grunts (standard troopers)
   -Power Armor troopers
   -Tanks
-Support Vehicles (medic truck, control vehicle, ect.)
   -“Giant” robots (tank sized)

As mentioned GZG have a large range of 15mm Sci-Fi: http://www.groundzerogames.net/

Also try: http://www.15mm.co.uk/
Currently 15% off listed prices (until tomorrow!) and only £3.50 shipping worldwide.
Mostly older 15mm minis, but definately worth a look.

Also worth checking out Brigade Models (nothing to do with Brigade Games) and Old Crow, both do 15mm resin vehicles.

GZG has an extensive 15mm line, is actively promoting that line, takes paypal and has given me faster delivery than most places in the states.  You won't go wrong with them.  Even if Jon won't release FMA Skirmish, the bastard, and is working on a stand-based 15mm oriented ruleset called Stargrunt: Assaurt Company instead.

GZG doesn't have many (any?) big robots in 15mm, though.  I supplement my GZG stuff with Heavy Gear.

If you want "big robots" for 15mm I'd probably opt for Em-4 28mm mechs, they are multi-part plastic so you can customise (to a certain extent), and being plastic are lightweight (a consideration for postage) :

http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Science_Fiction.html

They also have some small plastic "fighter" style spacecraft, probably closer to 5mm scale (if that) but they might work as unmanned drones, or even missiles.

As the others say, GZG is a sreat choice for grunts, but also have other useful pieces of equipment/vehicles etc.

Brigade have some nice 15mm vehicles and artillery :

Old Crow have some gorgeous pieces :

So unfortunately not a one-stop solution, but those are probably the best I'm aware of off-hand.

Good luck anyway, and let us know how you get on.

Thanks all, I guess I'll use the Stargrunt line.  I was just wondering if there was much else out there.  I am familiar with the EM4 minis and have already considered them (about the right size).  I actually had a bunch I painted but I sold them off in a big auction a while back...that'll teach me.

There's a fair bit of 15mm SF out there - GZG, Old Crow & Brigade are the high points (GZG has awesome infantry and neat vehicles; OC's resin vehicles are fantastic).

I've got a list up at http://www.warbard.ca/sg2fifteen.html of all the 15mm SF I know of; it is a year or two out of date, though. RAFM is back in the 15mm SF business but not on my list, Combat Wombat in the US are doing nifty resin vehicles, and there's probably one or two more I'm forgetting.
