Tomrommel1's terrain works The TSS tiles finished 26.9.16
« on: 19 August 2016, 07:17:25 AM »
I started to improve my wargaming terrain. First of I finished the wire wool trees I started half a year ago .

Then I started on my TSS tiles. I wanted to improve my trusty TSS tiles / boards. These are tiles measuring 1foot by 1 foot or 30,5 x 30,5 cm square. I have lots of them and after acquiring a foam cutter I even did some by myself. So after using them for years I wanted to give them a make over. I started with my river tiles.

Many more pictures of the other river tiles on www.wargamesgazette.com there is a lot more to do on the river tiles like paint water effects and flocking. I will add pictures when I get to these stages.

Over the weekend I could do a bit more work on my river tiles. Next step was painting the gravel and rocks.

For more info on how I did it go to www.wargamesgazette.com

This looks like a big project. now you've done some you'll have to do them all!
I'm interested in how you're going to do the water. The exposed polystyrene texture of the TSS water tiles has always been the biggest turn-off for me.

Yes that is the biggest problem with the river tiles. The water doesn't look right. I will use a mixture of ready mixed filler PVA and blue paint to get rid of the texture of the polystyrene . Then different shades of blue and green , then gloss varnish ( I have one that doesn't dissolve styrene) .

I won't go for the commercial water effects as the project is so big it would get to expensive quickly. There are another 7 river tiles, 4 beach tiles and  4 water tiles to do .

Thank you nheastvan!
Here is the beginning of another TSS tile overhaul. This time hill contour tiles . These will rise the terrain so you can place two tiles on top of each other to build undulating terrain. Hope that makes sense .

They look great...they remind me of my own desert cliff build - only wish I had added the loose rocks

Cork Cliffs are definitely the way to go...
