Napoleonic commission, Aspern Essling - First base complete
« on: August 21, 2016, 05:06:04 PM »
Got another Napoleonic commission to do and this one's in 28mm  :)

The client has gone for 3-4 building bases all about 300mm x 450mm but these dimensions could change depending.

First picture is of the first two roof plans. The details of the buildings will be fairly generic and easy to imagine so I thought it would be more important to get the layout sorted first.

Here is the base board with the buildings pencilled in place, the sabot base is 45mm x 67mm and those are unpainted Austrians (that will get a lick of paint eventually).

And here we go with the first building. It's the smaller one at the back and is fairly generic but there will be plenty of details to make it look less boring as the build progresses.

The roof will make more sense as more is done to it  :)

cheers

James

Dunno, but they're a shit to put together  lol

The backpacks really don't fit at all but they'll paint up just fine  :)

Pretty much finished the timber work on the upper floors for this building. A few more details on the lower story and it'll be ready to paint  :)

I've kept the timber work fairly simple on this one, the larger building to the front (this building is at the 'back' of the base) will have more decorative timbering.

The figures look like Victrix Austrians to me, you can run more glue into the joints to fill in the gaps. These buildings are inspiring, Aspern Essling and Auerstadt are two battles I,ve always fancied covering , but alas, my collection is 28mm and 15's or smaller is the only practical solution..... I,ll follow this thread with interest.

Thanks again gents  :)

The wood is 1mm thick balsa wood cut into 2mm strips with other sizes used as and when.

Primed the first building and got the roof structure done. The lines are there to help position the tile strips. Should be able to start painting this tonight  :)
