Stargate Jaffa - Miniature Size Comparision
« on: January 30, 2007, 08:26:01 AM »
As promised here are the various Jaffa that are or were available from manufacturers.

They are from left to right:

Gripping Beast - Eureka hawk helmeted (movie version) - Eureka bald head (movie version) - Phoenix - Shieldwall Games

As you can see the new Phoenix figures are slenderer than previous versions - however helmeted versions should mix OK. IMO the Shieldwall jaffa offer the best bang for your bucks however.

HTH  :)

Thanks for that.

I think I'm going to go with Shieldwall and their "I can't believe it's not Stargate" range.  The models are a better size and I can't really argue with 9 models for less than the price of 3 official ones.

Do you get enough staff weapons for all of them or is it a random mix of spears, shields and staffs?

I think there are enough staffs if you want to arm all your jaffa with staff weapons. The spears and shields are an obvious fudge. Save 'em for kit bashing in the future.

Thanks for the info, you're right, It can never hurt to have a few spare swords.

Hopefully they will do a 28mm version of their Jaffa with zat pistols and the cannon too.

The Shieldwall jaffa in the picture is actually armed with a zat - its holding it up by its head in its left hand. They come as a pack of 3 zat-armed jaffa. HTH.

You said the first Jaffa is GB. I could not find it on their web site. What range is it from?

Other than some ebay hunting, there are only the two current suppliers, Phoenix produce the licensed ones, and Shieldwall make models that look very close but are not officially Jaffa.

Gripping Beast for a short while produced a 6 figure "Science fiction explorers" pack in their Mo-Fo range. This consisted of a Go'uld, a Jaffa Prime (shown), Jack O'Neil, Daniel and two SGC troopers.

Then came the infamous reporting to Sony/MGM and the lawyers' cease and desist letters followed - this led to the figures made by Eureka, Gripping Beast etc being withdrawn.

Does anyone know why some Jaffa wear snake helmets and other have bird helmets? Does it have any thing to do with what Goa'uld they follow? Any ideas?

The snake heads are followers of Apophis, who was a serpent god in Egyptian myth.

The hawk headed Go'ould are followers of Heru-er, or Horus, the Hawk headed God (again from mythology)

The jackal headed are followers of Anubis, the jackal headed God.

Those without 'head' helmets could be followers of any of the gods, and to ID them one must identify a symbol tattoed on their forheads or other iconolgy.

Of course, these 'gods' didn't look like this in the series, but that's their association.
It's not cheating if your stupid.

Yes, as with many things the Mo-Fo travelers disappeared. Some of the uber limited second pack even got into circulation. About the only image of the whole team exists here:

The half made Jaffa cannon for the next release is still on my workbench...

I had a few on the old Mo-Fo yahoo site but now that's gone...

I'll dig it out from under the pile of lead and old green stuff and take a couple of pics when I get a chance.

Soaps.
