Some of my painted Stargate SG-1 and Jaffa
« on: September 19, 2010, 05:56:55 PM »
Finally broke down and bought a new camera that let me get some decent photos of my miniatures. I also recently finished a painting binge that cleared about 60 figures off my painting roster, and the Stargate figures were among that set. Here are a few photos of some of the Jaffa and SG teams. I have a few more photos up on my website at http://www.historicalwargames.net/

These are the old Phoenix Icons licensed SG-1 figures, and they're quite nice figures. They paint up very nicely and the SG-1 team is particularly well sculpted.

Nice paintjobs, but I hate the minis themselves. The heads look huge when compared to the skinny legs.

Hmm...
Now that you mentioned it, they seem to look a bit awkward. Maybe the proportions are a bit off. Nice detailing on  the minis, though.

I like the paintjob, too. :)

Thanks for the kind words on the painting. These were a lot of fun to paint--lots of nice detail on the figs that took washes and highlighting very well.

I know that Phoenix Icons figs are not to everyone's taste, but I have found them to be in line with what I like for doing Stargate in miniature.

Nice job.  8)

I have tons of these myself, and to be sure they are not to everyone's tastes, but I love 'em and its nice to see other people's efforts in painting them.

Must get round to my SG-1 at some point.

Well, it's like anything, there's loads of stuff out there and no one is going to like all of it!

Great paintjobs and yes, the minis are very nicely detailed. If they are what you are looking for in your games, then why not eh? Shouldn't stop you!  :)

Sorry but, I might be wrong but,  it looks like you've not used an undercoat and just painted onto the metal is that right?

Also the feet of all the figures seem to be buried in their base flock.

Nice to see the figures and all, but they would benefit from a little more work, shading would help for example as the humans look very flat.

Honesty, honestly offered, no malice intended.

No worries. I do appreciate honest feedback. Yes, I do undercoat the figures, and the feet may appear buried because of the camera angle. There are a couple figures feet that did end up buried, but not all. I know that I'm not pro-quality, but wargames quality in my painting and that's fine for me for now.

I'll admit that I still have to work on the lighting of the figures a bit more as I'm not happy with my lighting rig. The camera I use is light-years better than the old 1.3 MP Olympus I had, but I'm still learning all the features on it. Problem is the user, not the tools.  lol

I've always had a fondness for the original Jaffa of Ra.
