Ambush at Clotton : a "Horse and Musket" AAR
« on: 06 September 2016, 02:13:48 PM »
Continuing with the yet to be published "Horse and Musket" ruleset from Baron Von J, we bring you the next encounter in this campaign.

Following on from the "Encounter in Goatswood Cemetery" scenario, the Pirates get wind of supplies being moved by cart through the near by village of Clotton. Still desperate to resupply their ship the Pirates set an ambush within the village itself.

The pirate crew where at full compliment, whereas the Squires men were down one man, having been taken out of action in the previous scenario. Additional recruits were also available.

The scenario takes place in and around Clotton Village and was played on a 3' x 4' board. The waggon had to stay on the road and had to be accompanied; if the waggon was unaccompanied it would not move that turn. the waggon had a movement of 6" and the game lasted 8 turns.

General arrangement of the board with the Squire and his loyal militia entering the board on the road on the right hand board farthest from the village and the Pirates setting up anywhere on the left hand board edges.

The waggon merrily trundles along the road towards the village, with its escort taking up defensive positions behind trees and hedges - just in case anything happens.

Meanwhile, Edward Teach and his crew of cutthroats start to infiltrate the adjoins fields and roadway, checking out some loot as they go.

The good folk of Clotton look on as Pirates and militia head towards each other ...

The trap is sprung and Teach's lads start pouring fire into the militia, succeeding in driving a couple of them into cover, a bit shaken.

A vicious hand to hand fight takes place in the sunken lane; Teach's trusted lieutenant, Mr Hands, leaps forward to take on Brandon Trye, only to find himself on the pointy end of the sword, and knocked to the ground wounded, with the waggon trundling towards him ...

Mr Hands managed to extract himself from the waggon just in the nick of time, whilst Teach and the Squire exchanged numerous pistol shots, both giving and receiving as good as they got.

Teach and his crew, not expecting such stiff resistant, decided to start extricating themselves from the failed ambush attempt, grabbing a couple of pieces of loot on the way.

The waggon and Militia manage to make it to the exit point in the dying moments of the last turn.

A close run game with plenty of hand to hand action and a couple of encounters with the local populace, which ended up with one of the Militia being injured by a serving tray. The Pirates and Militia are starting to develop and the next couple of games will really see who comes out as top dog.

The miniatures are mostly from Foundry with a few Crusader miniatures and townsfolk from Redoubt. Most of the buildings are from TSS with a bit of GW falls and fences added in for good measure. The waggon is a Gripping Beast dark ages one with a few barrels added.

Thanks Guys for the kind words.

We are really enjoying this campaign and I think we will be setting sail for distant shores, soon.
