20mm Ambush Z board "Zombie Apocalypse in Denmark"
« on: December 07, 2009, 08:50:48 AM »
I found out that I have enough 20mm zombies, H0 railmodel housing and matchbox cars to do a gaming board now.

The aim is to make a 4x4 table with small gardens, a railway station, a fire station and perhaps a hot dog kiosk.

I hope to litter it with H0 stuff (furniture and stuff), small newspaper bits and other stuff to make it look really freshly deserted.

I will of course use the lovely elheim minis for the game:

With my lacking paint skills I've tried to give an impression of how I want it to look:

Zeds: (I already have plenty of these)

Looking great Thorbjørn. 20mm must be a great scale because there's loads of modeling stuff that can be easilly purchased and abused, it's always made me wonder why its not a more popular scale.

Thanks but no thanks. I already have all the zombies that I need. (and I want to paint them myself).

Yes! It will in fact be ingenious when it's done. Nothing less will do.

I think 20mm is the ultimate scale in many respects. It small enough to include vehicles without it ending up looking like a 20 yard tank firefight (as a certain Sci-fi game I know has a tendency to).

And yet the minis are large enough to have at least some character and make skirmishing and unique characters an option too.

Last but not least it seems that you could pile H0, 20mm and 1:72 stuff together without anyone feeling offended. Now that is A LOT to choose from. And all the fiddly interior stuff is readily available from train model blabla stores.

I think if I was going to choose a new scale it'd be 20mm, but being loaded with a ton of 28/32mm and 15mm, and just struggling with terrain enough for them it'd be too hard to get started (though if I sold my FoW....)

It really is hard to justify doing 15, 20 and 28. There's a lot of grey zones in between.

I was going through my lead mountain last weekend and it finally dawned on me i have modern  zombies in 15mm 20mm 25mm 28mm  32mm  and 40mm. must control my zombie buying impulse. At least some of the 28/32mm are painted and they have a few almost completed buildings to go with them.

Would love to hear how the Ambush Zed goes ,i've bought irt but havent played it yet . I'm curious to find out if its possible for the humans to win the 1st scenario in the given number of turns
cheers

Nice Idea. (obviously! ;)).

For the road layout's I'd use the printed roads and paths approach I used, (scale scenes downloads) plus the added bonus is no need for upscaling so you could print at home and reduce costs?

Downloadable pdf road and pavement sets from a railway scenics company called Scale scenes
http://www.scalescenes.com  and got the roads and pavements set (T034):

Concrete Ground (TX19)

Concrete Paths (TX33)

Tarmac (TX20)

Pavement (TX21)

Car park (TX22)

Hope this helps.

This is the sort of thing that reminds why I really should get on track with my 1/72 Umbrella Corp & COBRA forces.

So much to do, so little time.
Tank? Vot kind of dumbkopf name is that for a Schutzengrabenvernichtungspanzer?

Hmmm I don't really know about the paving and road.

My plan was to model them myself, and make the road cracked and earthquaked.

My plan is not to make a "real" city enviroment, but rather a post apocalyptic one in a Danish sense.  lol

But it would be a nice short cut to it though.

There's times driving around the west coast of Denmark that i get the 'post-apcoalytic Denmark' vibe already... (no need to what for some great disaster!) ;)
