1/600 ACW Naval at Catterick Club
« on: September 10, 2016, 10:32:12 AM »

Second club night at The Old Guard Wargames Club and I took along my ACW naval.

My game's table quicky turned into a mess of QRS, dice and token, with me scrabbling to find the correct rule or chart needed to continue the game - But, it being a first game, this should be resolved in the future.

There's a bit of a game report over on the blog, here
LINK
for those interested, but the images are less photogenic, game detritus in shot, and the latter turns are only a write up as time was short and photos less of a priority.

Starting positions: Union monitors to the left of the photo

The Confederates: Virginia following Chicora, line-astern

from left: Weehawken, Monitor, Nahant

Looks good.

If you're struggling with lots of charts, have you tried the Peter Pig rules "Hammerin Iron"?

They work fairly well for a reasonably quick game.
Last time I played the Virginia exploded (extremely unlucky, depending on your viewpoint - a complete fluke on an otherwise undamaged ship although she had already taken out one Union ship and was slogging it out against two others).

If you want to give them a try I'm over in Scarborough, so it's not an impossible distance from Catterick.

Thanks for sharing the game.
My friend and I are playing Sail and Steam Navies.
We like the rules a lot.
Also playing with 1/600 ships, mostly Thoroughbred models.
Really love them.
Will see if I can post some photos of our next battle.

Hello Marine0846,

Thanks for the info on Sail and Steam Navies. I'll do a google search as I'm unfamiliar with them.

My models are all Peter Pig, from here in the UK, but I'd love to own some of those Thoroughbred vessels some day.

I'm not on LAF too often, but I'll keep a look out to see if you do ever post your naval games.

Cheers
Roy

Hi Roy,

You can but the rules as a download from Wargames Vault.
Cost is $20.00.
