I really struggle with some folk.

I am a degree qualified product designer which entailed studying art and design for five years prior to my degree.

Kev is one of the only sculptors out there who actually looks at the female form and replicates it in a sensitive and delicate way.

"Pin-up" art is nothing new, nor is it tasteless. It's been around for decades. I understand folk maybe not liking this style or approach but to slag it off as being "teenage inspired"? Daft and uninformed.

As for the skyclad versions - I have friends that have bought previous versions of the male figures released this way before so that they can sculpt the outfit on that they want for the miniature as well as convert them more easily in terms of weapon load outs. I think how you look at them is limited only by your own pre-constructed ideas of what they are.

Mcfonz I can appreciate the female form but frankly this hobby already has a stigma with the chainmail bikini issue, these 'skyclad' minis are unnecessary. Its rather disappointing to be honest.

You will find that Kev does most of his models in the nude first, and then does the clothes over that. (including male models) if some want to buy the models in that state why get upset about it?

I would also point to the fact that the Romans and greek that "grand old foundation of modern culture" were also quite well known for their sculptures of nudes. If I look outside there is a picture of a nude woman selling perfume or something on the bus stop, but when it's a miniature it's immature?

The nudity doesn't bother me, it's more the coquettish poses and 'cheesecake' feel to them that puts me off. I quite like Kev White's sculpting style in general, but this does feel comicbook and cheesecake and not really to my own taste.

I don't find them offensive. Shit the bed, there's plenty of real stuff to be offended about without me getting anxious about toys ... or someone else's reaction to toys. Like someone shitting the bed for example.

I do agree with this, I prefer Kev's normal work over this stuff, which as the Kickstarter says is directly based upon Matt Dixon's work, who is a pin-up artist. Not that Kev doesn't do sexy poses or kinky stuff himself but I do those a bit more creative in general.

(And yes, we'd like to do the sci-fi guys too but unfortunately we have yet to find a financially viable solution for them that we are comfortable with)

Artemis  could you give some more background to this this  -  Is it that there is no demand for squads of similarly armed and equipped sci fi fire teams (say 4 riflemen and a SAW/other support weapon)?

I really like KW's sci-fi troopers but (other than the powered armour types) they are too varied in equipment for me and in a lot of cases the poses are mostly quite static.

"Like 90's comics, but more so."

PERFECT!  ;)

(actually 90's comics have a teenage obsession with 'bewbs' and nudity

Nice sculpts as usual.

The "winter clothing" ones are cleverly done with an eye on the Frostgrave market, IMHO!  :D

The project to me is a nice crossover between gaming and (Pinup) art, and I think that's what Hasslefree is doing for a bit anyway.
I appreciate that there's folks that would rather see less flirty poses, but that's a personal preference imo.

I am pretty sure that there's a thin line between being sensible about sexism and trying to tell women what to wear.
I wasn't really there, but I think I remember that the right to wear mini skirts had to be hard fought for by said women. :--)

Finally - I think that the HF nekkid dollies are just fantastic. Some poses might be debatable, but you can hardly find anything
better in terms of sculpting. Really, these are outstanding character references to say the least.

I just wish I could get the angry White guy to sculpt for me haha.

The solutions we've found have a certain cost, when we run that cost out to how many sets we'd need to sell to just break even, it is ... daunting.

As we aren't some huge company pretending we only need 10 grand to produce 100 plastic figures, we'd need to legitimately put a solid goal in place and as Kev's time is our greatest expense then that's a lot of investment because nobody is going to pledge to that goal based on 'exactly like these metal figures we make but in plastic' :)
We don't want to go PVC so that's out.

We simply haven't been confident of the kind of numbers we'd need to sell to warrant the upfront investment of time. As new solutions present themselves then our calculations change obviously, so it's not a dead idea, just an idea waiting for it's time ;)

(We are also looking into more out of the box solutions like working with a second sculptor, more well versed in digital, under Kev's overseeing. However it doesn't reduce the 'time spent' costs tall that much)

I'm sorely tempted here, but I really can't afford to invest at present  :'(
I'm not a mercenary. Killing's more of a hobby for me.
