Pulp planes,'train',and the odd automobile,
« on: October 21, 2016, 02:21:13 PM »
Having had few PM's from commenting on Steve F's thread on the Airfix Walrus.
Ive popped a few,of my pulp vehicles in a thread. To answer the PM's  I don't actually do anything cleaver or arty farty when I paint I just like my pulp stuff to look a little shabby ,normally two shades and two highlights that's it.Then throw some worn patches roughly where I think that they'd look right,(only thing I do then is add a highlight to the worn areas.) that's it.

Lovely stuff!! :-*

I have seen some of it before, (the land train), not seen the airship before, really nice.

Nice weathered look to everything, and thanks for the tip, makes me think that maybe I can come close to achieving similar results. :)

Thanks,
Your right the train was part of a tutorial ( I included it to try and motivate me to finish it).
The Airship started life as a Hindenburg 1/600 th Revell kit.The Walrus was the Smer 1/48 kit.everything else is Kellogg's.

Nice stuff.  I particularly like the pawnbroker's.

Coincidentally, I'd just read this:

"On one side of the car-park leant the first occupied house, No. 3, of the shattered Northwood Terrace - literally leant, for it had suffered from the blast of the bomb and the side walls were supported on wooden struts.  A smaller bomb and incendiaries had fallen beyond, so that the house stuck up like a jagged tooth ..." (Graham Greene, "The Destructors")

 - but I assume its the side wall holding up the wooden struts of the fire appliance this time!
Back from the dead, almost.

That's an interesting description,I'm going to nick the idea for an end of terrace rather than another building.
The Pawn brokers is more in keeping with the industrial and poorer part of town I'm working on.(rather than a bank it's literally of more relevant to the thirties theme I'm going with.Along with a chip shop.)
Having said that I'm quite surprised that the sudden rush of twenties gangster themed games that have hit the market non seem to have small town banks in there first releases.i would have thought a bank robbery would have been right up there as a scenario?
Steve the ladder is free standing at the angle in picture I made it go with the tri engine Fokker ,for airfield themed games but it fits well with buildings.
Mark.

Nice stuff! I like the weathering.

Blimey O'Reilly those are some fantastic builds and if I hadnt read your thread about building the Cannon I would not believe you about the Kelloggs.

Great and inspirational stuff

lol they really are cereal packet.(as I've mentioned before swearing is a key component of card modelling)
Ive also used cereal packet card to texture mdf kits people commission.Personally I only own one which my son bought for me at the last Partizan.
If your of a mind to try buildings I'd recommend using HO card railway buildings as a starting point then add cereal packet detailing and tiles the only thing you need to be mindful of is rescaling doors. You can always widen a door way to 28mm from 20mm but the quickest way to gain the extra height is to raise the whole building with a card skirt.(similar to the porn brokers ,not that I add this skirt to all buildings regardless even if there a complete card scratch build it keeps the themes running through the whole project ,well that's the plan anyway lol) Never take the door lintel above the window lintel height it will kill the whole rescale instantly.
It's a lot cheaper than mdf to practice on especially if your after warehouses and terraced housing.

When your Walrus kit arrives it going to be bit of a shock just how dire the figures and the guns are.But plastic guns are likely to snap even if there detailed well.
Mine are the Vickers 'k' gun from the 1st Corps Airbourne range, and are white metal . Smer kits are chunky and best viewed as a metal multi part kit rather than plastic .they'll take some abuse and fit well with scale detail on metal figure.Feel free to pick my oddball brains any time.
Mark.
