Looks like Warlord have taken on the Dredd licence, with options for other 2000AD characters as well:

https://www.2000adonline.com/post/1183

The styles might differ a but pretty cool that you'll be able to pick up bargain figs from Mongoose to use in the Warlord game.  Warlord will proably do right by the rules and support it, but they're not exactly known for bargain minis in their non-historical games.

Obviously a good thing for folks who bought-in big with the Mongoose stuff, but also good news for newcomers wanting to save a few bucks as they buy-into the Warlord game.  I'll be very curious to see how the Warlord games options compare.

Anyone know of any other situations where one miniature company looses a popular license and it is immediately snapped up by another?

I want to feel happy that it's going to get support.

I can't help feeling a degree of forboding as Warlord like their big 32mm miniatures, 'to really show the detail', which won't be really compatible with previous ranges.

But the way they've described their Dr Who game, an adventure mode and a battle/skirmish mode makes me happy again as that would work very well with a lot of 2000AD characters.
He that trades Liberty for Security will soon find that he has neither.

Looks like Strotium Dog will be the first game from Warlord with others too.I love that they will be doing Slaine too.

I think that Warlords scale will be close to the Mongoose figures.Good sculpting too i would think.

It makes me wonder if Warlord will have the Mongoose figures in there new range or start from scratch?

I am delighted at this news. Not only will the Judge Dredd range continue but so many other 2000AD characters will be immortalised in miniature. Somehow it seems fitting that Warlord Games has renewed the JD licence and expanded it.

Probably the very best end this could have had, as long as the scale matches this will just give us a load of new figures to augment the previous range, and if anything, it will maintain the relevance and so value of the previous range, like Mongoose / Warlord Dredd helped to drive demand and keep prices good for the old Citadel Dredd stuff. Though scale could be an issue, their Konflikt 47 stuff is true 28mm & definitely too small to match.

I'd be surprised if they didn't take on some of the Judge figures from the range, eg the Judges in the Heroes box set really are properly excellent. But then on the other hand I would be surprised, as almost all the Judges have already been sold to the core enthusiasts, a different set would sell much better.

Maybe the big question is over the ABC Warriors. They were excellent, except Hammerstein who was still good but had a bit of a building issue in his chest not completely fitting with the lower body (the lights on his hips hit his bandelier), but what about Mongrel, the only one anyone's ever made? That was a superb figure and there's obviously demand.

And also, I wonder if the fact Warlord are going more 2000AD than just Dredd means they're going to be taking on Rogue Trooper too.

Overall great news, and it comes just as I finally solve the last of my proxy problems (which I'll explain later as may help others).

edit - re vampifan I agree it seems fitting it's Warlord, I had a chat with them a while back and apparently they're named Warlord after the comic, into Brit comics they considered they were Dredd's natural home (and that shines thrown all their press releases, they're obviously enthusiasts too). Though I still think Mongoose were right for it, at least up to a certain point, they were proper enthusiasts who overall gave us a lot of really decent opportunity.

The licence is for the whole history of 200AD, from 1977 up to now, all the stories, plus, Rebellion also produce the Dredd 2012 stories, which are partially accepted as 'proper' Dredd.

Karl and Olivia anyone?

I know on this thread there's someone whose project is primarily Brit-Cit, they PM'd we and we chatted about it but I didn't keep the PM and now can't find their post in this massive thread. I've found some old OOP figures from a quality range in stock at the caster with a whole load of figures that would work for Cal-Hab highland renegades and depending on taste maybe Brit-Cit citi-def. If they post on thread again or PM me I'll PM them the lead (rather than just post it here as there's limited stock and for all I know it might be sought after stuff & so underpriced and get grabbed).

Re Warlord, fingers crossed they'll do a few in the uniform of the last Dredd film, I prefer the original style but figures in the new one would be fun and useful, and I suspect that more current style would have a lot more appeal in America and help it all work, maybe break it through a bit.

I like the Foundry range (and if Warlord getting DW is anything to go by, get them now while you can).
I was disappointed the Mongoose range was ended (and damn being to poor to pick up all I wanted at the time).

A year or so ago this would have been of interest to me, but having seen the awfulness of the Doctor Who range they've bought out I'm not so sure now.

Will keep an eye but, but if they use the same sculptor(s) as they have for Doctor Who... will be just no.

Might end up scouring eBay for Mongoose and Foundry figures.

Some how I felt that Warlord may step up...thanks to this thread and the thought that the range maybe lost it's giving me back a kickstart to my Brit Cit ideas using whatever I can get or already have around.
I've just bought a bike and rider from Scotia Grendel and a couple of bits from Prince August a "power lifter" and a police bike with rider..no idea how they will fit into the various bits and pieces that I have.
I just hope that Warlord has enough already in the pipeline to show us a few tasters.

This is officially A Good Thing

The whole history of 2000AD is now open to us....

Harlem Heroes!

Ace Trucking Co!

Meltdown Man!

even Death Planet!

Ooh, ooh! What about Metalzoic! That was mental!

Personally, I'd be happy with some more Hondo and Brit-Cit Judges, and maybe some Pan-Africans as well. And a proper Devlin Waugh so I don't have to cock up making one myself.

One other neat thing to remember is that the figs from Rebel Minis are probably going to be exclusively figures that are not major trademarked charachters from the series.  These are the very figs that Warlord is probably going to take longest to produce as it will probably start the line with more high-profile subject matter.

Should be great for fans that some of the less-common types will be available right from the start, albeit from different manufacturers.

Might end up scouring eBay for Mongoose and Foundry figures.

Don't yet, the sharks have moved in on ebay and are now selling this stuff (BNIB that they grabbed during the fire-sales) off for properly inflated prices, I grabbed loads during the fire sales (I started behind but caught up & ended up being in the right place at the right time), but not to profit off fellow enthusiasts but simply to get what I needed, and while doing that, there were bargains cropping up I didn't need but too good not to get, I'll be passing them on in the Bazaar, I may look to make a tiny bit here or there but only to cover other places I took hits (some of the stock were bargains, other bits weren't), but it will all equal out and will definitely be meaningfully less than it was retail, so good bargains.

I don't have huge amounts of stuff or spare of all the stuff but hopefully bits that will fix a few peoples needs. I would have listed it all already but until yesterday wasn't exactly sure what I'd need cuz I was still looking for proxies and considering more conversions, but I'm sorted now so know what I can pass on, will list in within the next week. If there's a particular figure or few figures you are desperate for PM me ahead. Unfortunately though I don't have any spare East Meg reinforcements, mini-bots, or ABC's warriors.

Also don't forget Rebel Mini's in America have the moulds for and will be selling the Cit-Def and Cultists box sets, it seems they may have a few more of the range to release, possibly everything short of the heavily licence-identified stuff like Judges & ABC's.

edit - re ebay that's not to criticise those expensive sellers who are higher than retail (I've bought the odd long OOP figure off them and glad they exist, they provide a service) and definitely not criticising players selling theirs on at retail (or slightly more to cover the ebay fees), it's all rightly so cuz this stuff is now OOP and potentially rare, just re the very expensive sellers hopefully it's not necessary for a bit & while stock is still cycling in enthusiast sites like this.

So much good stuff in that comic for gaming.

Frankly speaking though I am somewhat disappointed if the entire range of 2000ad stories are available why people are not demanding a Nemesis miniatures game be done. (which also gets me thinking I should drop off my Nemesis collection with Nic as hawkmoon is very similar with its techno fantasy vibe to Nemesis. Might give the sculptors some interesting ideas.)

BE PURE
BE VIGILANT
BEHAVE!

what's not to like.

Yes, most definitely this! I was thinking of this when I read "entire range".
